All, and particularly Paul Brierley and Drummond, please accept my apologies for logging in as Paul and not Paul Byrne when I started and responded to this topic. I am out and proud as the Tasmanian PB! I guess I fluked the other Paul's password. While I am on the site, does anyone have a photo, des...

Thanks Andrew, I ran HPR 40 during the event and will use HPR 30 over winter. Balance pipe seal tested ok and I was very careful during assembly. Also there is no smoke at idle when vacuum would be strongest. At 2mm overbore there is still a lot of meat in the liners so I doubt they are distorting. ...

Hi Vic, I used modern leads with the right angle ends that nomally go to the distributer as the plug conectors (they look neater). However I do two other things. Firstly, seal the cable to the rubber right angle with a little silicon gasket maker. Secondly, I fit an 'o' ring onto the spark plug, int...

Allan, According to my car, screen, measured from top of scuttle to top of widscreen frame, at the angle of the windscreen, is 380mm at outside edges, 315mm at centre, and 330mm half way between ie directly in front of driver or passenger. Bench seat back is 1100mm wide and about 490mm high. Base is...

JUP and Targa Tasmania
Hello all, Just to let you know that my Jup, with Veronica and me, has just completed the 2000k of Targa Tasmania and 30 closed road stages with no problems, apart from heavy oil cosumption. We were in the Tour section and thus did not have to try to achieve base times, but we had to move along to a...

Very interesting article on the running- in process. Seems very sensible. Re the Id plates, 440 does not have the original side panels but has large easily removable aluminium panels that seem effective. Has anyone a photo of the originals in place, perhaps showing the location of the ID / lub. plat...

Chassis plate location
G'day folks, I now have a new chassis ID plate and lubrication plate from Tony M. Problem is I don't know where to put them. Any non insulting suggestions as to the correct locations would be gratefully received! By the way-I noticed the discussion on running-in oil. Views on the recommended type an...

Re the different pistons mentioned in the Tuning Notes, it could well be that the difference is simply the depth of the bowl. I say this because it seems that the 8 to 1 piston musthave been almost flat topped as the combustion chamber space including the gasket and any bowl is given as 52 to 54cc w...

Surely the static CR is an ok figure to use on a comparative basis. The original is, I think, 7.8 to 1. From this I calculate the head and piston bowl capacity to be around 54cc total. If the liners are bored to around 75.5 mm the total swept capacity becomes around 1610cc and the CR should rise to ...

Replacement pistons
G'day all, I know this subject has been covered before but I would appreciate your views on the best replacement pistons. Here in Aus we have the club supplied JP replicas which I'm sure are fine, but I really would like to take advantage of a few more cc and higher comp. ratio from flat top pistons...

Removal of liners' locating tabs
G'day all, Just pulled down a PD engine supplied by the Aus club, thanks Mike. Engine castings are in good condition and crankshaft is in one piece even though it looks like an original slab sided / no crankpin holes Jowett shaft! Is this possible? Pistons are on verge of collapse with top rings in ...
