Re: Escort crown wheel

I worked with Ford on gear design back in the 1970s and they were metric then as the Ford Cologne plant has design authority over gearbox design for Europe. Even if the Escort crown wheel was imperial the liklyhood of it mating with the Javelin pinion would be very low indeed. You might put an Escor...

Javelin Wheel balancing

On the way to Wakefield I heard a bang and lost a wheel balancing weight. We went to a tyre depo who, free of charge, re-balanced the wheel. A few hundred yards form their place (down a one-way street) another weight fell off. Has anyone else had this type of problem? I looked at Javelin wheels on t...

Hello Mike,
Another big vote of thanks and approval from the UK! Much clearer illustrations and spare parts list, and as David says, easy to see the variations over the years. Congratulations!!

Javelin windscreen leak.

Gentlemen. Many thanks for all the input on this subject. I used black bathroom silicone sealant on parts of the windscreen and this seems OK but have not run in heavy rain yet! I looked up the Silkaflex web site and copied the information. I will also look for data on Bodyline sealant too.

Leaking windscreen

My Javelin windscreen leaks around the rubber. Is there any sealant I can apply that will give a cure without removing the glass and using a new rubber? I have tried the clear creeping sealant, thanks to David Morris, but this did not work too well. Is 'Liquid Rubber' any good? Any other ideas?

My car came with a separate button, though inspection showed the slip ring was in place. The short may be casued by deflection of the steering column within the outer tube. At the top of the tube is a felt washer which in my case had virtually disintegated, which allowed the steering wheel to move f...

I used the method of removing all the plug leads from a cold engine. Then turned it over on the strtater moter for 5 seconds. Then inspect each plug in turn; a wet one is usually obvious since the plugs ought to be dry from the last engine run.

Thanks to all who replied to my query. Many thanks to David Morris and John Airey who spent the day searching at Beaulieu for me. Their hard work paid off and I am now the proud owner of chrome locking fuel cap.

Locking petrol cap

I have a 1949 Javelin with a plain bayonet style fuel cap (stamped Ford!). Anyone know where I can get a chrome locking fuel cap please? Or know that a different car's cap will fit?

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/casey_cole/Jowett/1.jpg I was stunned to find my first Javelin, KWR 600, advertised for sale under car and classic web site. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/casey_cole/Jowett/2.jpg Here is the number plate. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/casey_c...

Congratulations to the Scottish committee. An excellent long weekend. How did you get the weather to co-operate? Had a great time and drove 870 miles. Looking forward to Bideford.

Leo,
Many thanks; I will use 5 mm or 6 mm gauge plate. I guessed the hole was not functional, though as you say it makes a grip point!
The gallery picture did not 'come up' - I was logged in. The Word was very quick and I saved this on my C drive. Thanks again.

Leo, many thanks, I managed to download your second reference as a word document. What thickness steel did you use please? And is the hole in the bottom corner just to hang the tool up? I was thinking of using gauge plate as the steel.

Tappet adjustment

I have just re-adjuted my tappets and had to juggle with three spanners and a set of feelers. Has anyone made a special tool / know of an easier method of holding the push rod nut to release one of my four hands? I usually use the just-turn-the-push-rod method for the gap setting, but you still need...

Drummond, Thanks for the information. Thanks for the tip about using tapered screws in place of a steel ball. It would be great if you can find a supplier of two 5/16" BSF screws; many thanks.
