Re: Bradford CA Camshaft wanted

I've been able to pin point a noisy tappet by placing the thinnest feeler gauge, 1.5 thou in my case, in each gap in turn while the engine is running to see if the tapping reduces. Mind you, this can damage your guage!

Re: Bradford CA Camshaft wanted

Also, are you sure the noise is actually a tappet?

Re: Bradford CA Camshaft wanted

Hi Barry, have you tried club spares? They used to have a good supply of the later camshafts!

Thanks for the pics Keith, brought back very fond memories of my time working as a sommelier at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel in Russel 30 years ago!

Re: Spark plugs

I agree, NGK seem to be the most reliable and best for longevity. However, please buy only from a reliable source as there are cheap forgeries out there (priced too good to be true, as I found out)!

Re: Another dumb quesiton RE: Short Two - Fluids and capacities.

You can indeed use the same oil in the engine as in the gearbox but they are separate from each other. The handbook states the level should be halfway up the layshaft, equating I believe, to about 2 inches on a dip stick.

Re: Clutch material

Actually, found lots of pics and Info on the subject on here from messrs Bangham and Ellison. I think I've established I can use 5mm Kevlar rope in place of the original asbestos, but I need to make sure I get the correct one and from the right place.

Clutch material

Has anyone had occasion to source a suitable replacement material for the vintage cone clutch? It was apparently an asbestos rope reinforced with brass wire originally.

You will eventually find the necessary parts, I'm sure. In the meantime, enjoy that little car and fly the Jowett flag!
