Re: Javelin clutch noise - clashing?
My Javelin did this too, I put a small jubilee clip round the clutch pedal arm, between the foot pad and the floor on the inside. This stops the pedal going to the floor and thus stops clutch fork moving too far. While you are poking round make sure that the tie rod between the bottom of the column ...
Re: Rear axle
Hi Paul, Makes sense now, I don't think I've ever seen the hydro-mech setup in the flesh. You might be lucky and find the standard Javelin CWP will fit but the oil seals might be an issue. I'll ask my dad on Friday, he has had plenty of Javelins and I think one or two may have been a PA. We have a c...
Re: Rear axle
Hi Paul, There are differences but I’m not sure anyone ever got to the bottom of when / what changed. The Javelin and Jupiter axle are not the same ratio, the later Jupiter housing is slightly larger to accommodate the Le Mans 4.1 CWP which won’t fit in a standard Javelin case without modification b...

Re: bonnet struts
Not sure about the inner wings, I'll have a look. The fixing at the bonnet should be OK because this is where the standard rod fits but the inboard one might be pretty close. It does clear the suspension top mount and I assume the inner wing doesn't reach this area because it would catch. I've got s...

Re: Dismantling a Javelin Cylinder Head
I put an old 19mm socket on the valve cap and give it a wallop with a hammer, you can feel it when it lets go as the bounce changes. Same thing just another way of doing it.

Re: Exhaust system
Wow! Nest of snakes? The simple answer is 1&3 / 2&4 isn't as good as 1&2 / 3&4 when it comes to using the previous exhaust stroke to extract more gas out of the next cylinder because it doesn't match the firing order. BUT, unless you are chasing the last few HP out of the engine it d...

Re: bonnet struts
A quick update for anyone that’s interested in an alternative to the bonnet strut arrangement on their Jupiter. The reason behind the mod is twofold, firstly my original strut is in pretty bad shape and secondly the elder (and wiser I’m told) Mr McAuley isn’t quite as fit as he used to be and liftin...

Re: Exhaust system
Hi James, The standard Jupiter is 1&3 and 2&4 with the crossover pipe and works well enough, could you do this but turn the 2&4 manifold round to face backwards, this gives you two rearward facing pipes that can be joined in a single Y piece. The only problem is the standard cylinder hea...

Re: Another SC Jupiter rebuild
The front wings needed some work to match the shape of the scuttle. I had a problem with the near side front wing as it just wouldn’t align properly at all, it wasn’t the new bottom A post either it just didn’t look the right size. After several more test fits I noticed a strange number stamped into...

Re: Another SC Jupiter rebuild
The bonnet was test fitted with the hinges, there is a dip in the middle because I’m missing the steel support that fits to the X brace. When I got the car, many years ago, the front end was quite damaged so it got sent off to a chap that worked for Aston Martin in the 60’s making bodywork. He did a...

Re: Another SC Jupiter rebuild
I’m back with some updates, looking at the dates on the forum it was December 2020 when I last posted. Obviously the pandemic put a stop to things for a while, so the first half of 2021 was a bit disrupted. I don’t have the time to work on the car every day, I have a job and customers need projects ...
