Re: Parts washing liquid

Following further investigation into the use of diesel for parts washing I find that it could give health problems in addition to the well known dermatitus from petroleum derived liquids. I always use gloves but sometimes find that a glove has split and my hands are wet. However, it seems especially...

Re: Parts washing liquid

Unfortunately the liquid in your link is more than twice the price of diesel and also out of stock at present. I think it is a bit cheaper in bigger drums but I also think it will have the disadvantages which I mentioned of other warer based liquids which seem to be more suited to industrial washher...

Re: Parts washing liquid

My tank looks identical to yours, Keith, but I'm still wondering whether they are now using a different plastic for the pump due to their insistence on the use of aqueous solutions in their guarantee. I would like to use the tank as it is, having recently bought it and given away the old one due to ...

Re: Parts washing liquid

Thanks Philip and Keith. I looked up the details of the Aquavantage product and agree with Keith that the price looks high for occasional home use, but at their (sort of reccomended) dilution of 9:1 it doesn't look so bad. However the initial outlay is still a bit daunting. Don't know if I will stil...

Parts washing liquid

Hello everyone. I would be interested to know what liquid you use in your parts washing tanks. For many years I used a petroleum based liquid which was effective and long lasting. Solid particles sank to the bottom leaving the remaining liquid usable. The solids could be scraped then washed off the ...

Re: Javelin/Jupiter oil pump

Hi Philip Many thanks for all the work in measuring and drawing. My dimensions are similar but not exactly the same. There would be tolerances and also, I guess, aftermarket parts around. I have been able to dismantle another pump and now I have seen gears with chamfers both ends. A closer look at s...

Re: Javelin/Jupiter oil pump

Just picked up the last two replies David Thanks for your reply. Yes, JCS was my first try and I have tried Simply Bearings and several other bearing shops and a couple of manufacturers, no luck in this size. I need an old fashioned shop which keep odds and ends in the back or who are willing to ask...

Re: Javelin/Jupiter oil pump

Thanks for your thoughts Philip I did not think about idler shaft lubrication as I assumed there would always be a pressure drop across the gears which would help enough oil to flow up the little channel in the base and up the shaft as plenty comes out of the drive gear nozzle. Maybe it does need so...

Javelin/Jupiter oil pump

Hello everyone I'm puzzling over what is the function of the chamfers on the Jupiter/Javelin oil pump gears and why they should be fitted at the lower ends of their spindles as in my Maintenance manual page 30. The only reason for them that I can think of is that they are an identification so that g...
