Navigator Wanted

I'm hoping to do some of the Inter Register events this year and next and I am looking for a navigator to join in the fun. My Jowett is small, cramped and has no hood (at the moment) so navigating promises to be a challenging experience. If you are up for that challenge please get in touch. cheers J...

Re: Bradford Special

Very kind of you to say so Chris, I totally enjoyed the project and the challenges it posed. The special runs well and the trip to Huddersfield was a landmark moment for both me and the car.

And yes - the next project - I am working on ideas as I type!

Re: I should know better at my age

I would have thought that the bolts should all be BSF (British Standard Fine) of various lengths and diameters. The most common diameters are 5/16 and 1/4. The radiator bolts should be top hat like one of the ones you have. This is to stop crushing the rubber but still letting the bolt tighten. The ...

Re: Test drive a Jowett

That's an interesting watch - are any parts of that route within easy reach of this years rally site?

Re: I should know better at my age

I don't know the answer to this, but on other cars the spring rate is not just dependent on the number of leaves but their thickness and the curve set on the spring. When I needed new front springs for my Bradford I went to Jones Springs (https://www.jones-springs.co.uk/vintage-car-springs) who have...

Re: I should know better at my age

I have just measured the spare column and box in my loft - the distance from the top to the steering box mounting hole is 51 inches (just under 1.3m). Overall length including the whole steering box is 54 inches (1.37m). Hope this is helpful

Re: I should know better at my age

Thanks David that tyre might be a future choice for me as they certainly look good. The steering on the MG TC is awful to say the least - one of the worst steering MG's I've driven. Wrongly set up they are all over the place. But yes the same kind of set up on the Bradford - which can be wayward too...

Re: 1925 short 2 auction

The estimate was low. Other cars in the sale didn't do so well. I used to own the Morris Minor ohc saloon (DF9053) - I don't think that made £6k against a much higher estimate.

Re: I should know better at my age

They are BSF threaded, from memory all the same size just have different angles to them (straight, 90 degree etc)

I bet it liked the new fuel filter!! That one was well past its best

Re: I should know better at my age

A lot of Bradfords don't have an air filter - either nothing or a gauze over the inlet holes to stop large things falling in. But you can get modern filters to fit inside the old steel cans if you are luck enough to have one of those. Carbs are straightforward to overhaul, just have to hope that the...

Re: Long Two clutch and flyweel

The scan shows the part I meant, thanks Tony - Barry you can see if its there without taking anything apart. Picking up on your point of it being a gearbox issue I can't see how that could be the cause. The gearbox input shaft would just slide inside the clutch further. If the front bearing retainer...
