Am thinking of fitting low level air filter to my Javelin.
With the old filters disconnected my engine seems to have more power and easier starting
I believe this was done on the Jupiter if so are these filters still available
Thanks..

Re: Petrol Pump
Seems like the same problem i have with the Javelin. Runs smooth but won't exonerate past 50 have tried most things suggested to you but still not cured the problem. I suspected the fuel pump so overhauled it with a kit and tested the output with a length of clear pipe for head of fuel. It reached m...
Re: Timing
Dont have the old carbs as given to JCS as exchange. The car seems to pull up hills ok in top or third gear and revs ok out of gear. In top it exelerates up to 50 then stops at that speed and won't go any faster but seems happy. Have opened the dizzy plate and the bob weight springs are in place . H...
Re: Timing
The car is fitted with a recon dizzy with Clements curve from the dizzy doctor. It also has recon carbs from the Jowett spares. Have checked the plugs they are dark grey. Have noticed the car seems to be running cool about 60c 65C Is this normal it has a new 75c thermostat fitted . Will now check th...
Re: Timing
After a run there is a strong smell of petrol. On investigating i found both the bellows on both carbs wet on the inside with petrol.Seems like blow back the timing is set static TDC. Perhaps i need to retard the ignition as the spark is coming before the inlet valves are closing.
Thanks Barry.
Thanks Barry.
Timing
Have recently put my Javelin back on the road. The engine is running smoothly but won't exonerate past 50 mph. I have fitted a re con dizzy from the dizzy doctor with the Clements curve. Would the engine run if the dizzy was 180 deg out. The static timing is set at tdc on no 1 cylinder. It shows 10 ...

Re: Javelin bonnet badge
Have re fixed the Jowett bonnet badge. I found it easier to fit 2BA threaded rod in the badge holes. I then used a quarter drive socket on a flexible socket bar. With the air filter removed i could reach inside the bonnet nose. I taped the spacer washer and nut at the end of the socket then reached ...

Javelin bonnet badge
Hi the bonnet badge on my 1953 Javelin has fell off.
It seems it has only been held on by the bonnet strip overlap.
The badge is blank except for 2 tapped screw holes.
I checked in the bonnet nose and its empty no screws clips ect.
Does anyone have info how the badge was originally fixed.
Thanks Barry

Re: Javelin front outriggers
Have fitted the new front outriggers just cut the old ones out or what was left of them and welded the new ones in.
It was a straitforward job. Have now painted with black paint looks ok.
Barry.

Have bought a pair of new front outriggers for my Javelin the old ones are past repair and new ones are cheap from JCS.
I was wondering if any members have any tips or points to watch out for when fitting these or is it a straight forward job cut out the old and weld in the new.
Thanks Barry.

Re: Starting problem.
Thanks for the info overhauling the pump has definitely cured the starting problem. The car is now starting from cold first time with full choke.
Fuel pump
Having problems overhauling the mech pump on my 1953 Javelin. Have received a new kit from Jowett spares and have fitted the new diaphragm by pushing in the rod and twisting bayonet fashion. The pump works ok for a while then fails. On opening the pump the diaphragm pin has jumped out of the slot. T...
Re: Fuel pump
Still having problems checked the float chambers these were full but turning the engine for a long period the plugs were dry. After double checking timing spark ect i resorted to spraying quick start down the carb inlets this time the car started and ticked over. I checked the suction on the inlets ...
Re: Fuel pump
Have tested the fuel pump as mentioned before with a length of plastic pipe. The pump pumped the fuel up to the recommended 29 inches i tried it twice on turning the engine over and once by hand all reached the 29 inches so assume the pump is ok. Will now have to look further as this is happening re...
