Centenary Rally DVDs

Post by Mike Allfrey »

G'dday from the Soggy South.

We received 135 mm of rain on Friday night and Saturday, the tail end of Cyclone Yasi, here in Melbourne!

Last night we conducted a Jowett Car Club of Australia DVD viewing session. All of our viewers, ladies included, were very impressed with the subjects and the quality of the two Centenary Rally DVDs.

One viewer remarked at one point, "People must have been drinking at that pub long before cars were invented!" We all loved the 'Phil Green interview and the way the test run was done. Particularly the top-down Jupiter in the sleet. It was also good to see Sutton Bank again -- good Jupiter memories of that one!

The scenic run well illustrated that even the rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm for the Scenic Run. A sight for us was the full reservoir, we have not seen many of those lately! But that is changing fast, Melbourne's water supply is now half full.

The Cannon Hall interviews were fabulous and it was good to see Ian Aitken-Kemp enjoying himself. Also, Dave Kennedy's description of how he came by his Jupiter was absorbing viewing.

Well done oop there, our compliments to all of you. It is a shame that we could not have been there and, my Jupiter would have loved another blast oop Sutton Bank -- just for the sheer fun of winter motoring, the way it should be done!

A message for John Atack, did you go to Abbotsholme School in Derbyshire in the mid-1950s? When I was at that school, there was a John Atack at the school too.

Thanks folks,

Mike A.

Thanks Mike for your kind words regarding the DVDs. It was really my idea to attempt to conclude the rally with a specially commissioned film of the test route re-enacted in 2010 with restored cars. It took an age to find a film crew who were prepared to have a go, but once we got Mercury on board and introduced them to Phill they were totally smitten with the project. On the Monday night of the rally the DVD did just what I hoped - it brought the Jowett story right up to date. Copies of the DVD are still available.

Hi Paul

I was promised a DVD for Christmas from one of the kids but they forgot what I had asked for! I didn't realise they were still available. How much are they and from where can I obtain one please?

Thanks

Paul
