To all club officers on email.
Jowett.org requests is a valuable lifeline to the Jowett public. I am checking that this is working. It relies on the email addresses of the officers of the club that jowett.org uses being correct, so please inform webmaster if your address changes. Please also check the link is working and that any spam filters are not stopping requests getting to you. Do this by sending a message to yourself when you should get a response to your request plus the request that you sent; in other words, two emails.
The spares and press officer addresses were wrong so they have not been getting emails for two years. Not their fault though. I do not have an address for Scottish, North West, North West, South West, South or Severnside Section Secretaries. If there is somebody in those sections who is willing to take emails for the section then please contact webmaster on http://jowett.org/requests.php
I do not have an email address for the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Awards Coordinator or Stationary Engine officers.

Re: Officers' communication link
I have updated the requests page with all the officers who I think have email addresses. I hope I have made it friendlier to use.
The pre-war registrar requests will go via the spares email address.
Note that many officers did not respond to my email that checked their link, which shows how unreliable this method might be for some and would reflect on our public interface.
Please can we work hard to get our internet presence working.
All officers can check to see if their link is working be sending themselves a request. You will get an email confirming what you sent and should get the email via jowett.org as well.

Re: Officers' communication link
Would it not be better that each branch secretary keeps updated addresses contacts etc....which happens to be a part of a club secetarys job right.
Often these details are updated in monthly newsletters and/or after a AGM election of officers,
Newsletters are also sent to the web master.
A webmaster be at branch or national level is no more than say a tresuerer or events co ordinator, therefore it is not up to the webmaster to keep, maintain contact details upto date....each officer of a club is part of a team.
Surely this is an internal club issue which effects all club officers in their duty and should be handled within normal club /committee meetings???
And if that is the correct method then no wonder the above doesnt work, and if the normal method isnt working how do other officers/ committe member manage to carry out their responsabilies....which happen to be far more critical than internal contacts on a web site

Re: Officers' communication link
1. Club news letters rely on officers telling the editor of any changes. It is not the secretary's job to chase.
2. The membership list should contain the best information and, as I received the latest last week, was prompted to make changes.
3. Having an email address does not mean it is read or that mails from jowett.org mails get there. Hence the need for occasional checking.
4. Having alternatives for officers without email addresses gives internet users a contact method.
5. One alternative is to have a single person who handles web requests for all officers. They spend time phoning and chasing the officers concerned. This I do as back up if I find a request has not been answered. One job I could do without!

Re: Officers' communication link
OH yeah....thats my piont....details of members and officers are kept in a club by the secretary (s) or a nominated officer delegated to look after membership issues. One job I could do without!
These are updaed at least each yr with new memberships and renewals.
A newsletter editor or a web master is only as good as the information, event details given to them...
No updated info, events, nothing recorded.
If someone wants to contact some one else i the club, contact details are given out bt the secretarty, be it email addy or a po box....If a member wants to log in and forgotten a pw, cant get it because changed email for confirmation code. they should be told to contact and update their details with the club secretary AND/OR contact the web master.
This can be done by putting those details on the lost pw page...in upper case bold.
But at the end of the day it is not and should not be the responsabity of a web master to have to keep club membership details upto date...As an officer a web master is no more than say....the person responsable for spare parts inventory, and as responsable for member details....And the spare part inventory requires accruate member details to send parts to, just the same as a web master.
A web master of a dynamic web site unlike say the spare parts person who has orders maybe once a week. or tresurer who sorts numbers once a month or so, has almost a daily job of checking logs mail servers ...dealing with these logs.
A web master like a treasurer requires information, Imagine a threasurer trying to do end yr a/c s and the spare parts and membership officers do not supply or give inaccruate info.........
And do not have the input not facilties to do it anyway. One job I could do without!

Re: Officers' communication link
I do know most people in the club and can always phone them after contacting the enquirer myself. That way we do not loose a member of the Jowett community. Just wish I had the time to do everyone's job...
