absolutely great news Alan! Are the final 5 judged at the nec to produce a 'winner' or is there anything we can do to influence things?

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
Well done Alan and all who voted for you.
All we want now is Amy's Jupiter on the Jowett stand with a poster to say that was the 'Classic car of the Year in 2010' and Alans to be the 'Classic Car of the Year 2012'.
Two completely different ages of car but both Jowetts owned and restored and driven by younger JCC members.

Alan,AlanBartlett wrote:I have just this second well about 20 mins ago recieved a call from bauer media. To say that the Long Saloon has been shortlisted into the top 5 at the NEC. Well its just taken me about 20mins to get down from the ceiling. Absolutely astounded and amazed. Id like to thank everyone who has voted and for all your continued support throughout the restoration. Many thanks Alan
I think at this point we are safe to say:
ABSOBLOODYLUTELYBRILLIANT!!!!!
Not sure how much looking at the prizes you've done(I always avoid looking at these things until we know the outcome!), but for anyone that hasn't read up on this, as a minimum you've got a fancy watch, creeper, fancy ratchet, set of whit sockets, and a year of free insurance, and if you win, some other stuff besides...
Now you need to remember this. Your car just got voted as the top 5 car in the country this year. That is a massive achievement. You have put a Jowett on the podium at the NEC, ahead of other cars worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, with their millionaire owners, and all down to a public vote - which is utterly brilliant.
At this point you can't influence whether you win or not. The votes are in and counted, and Bauer Media know who has won already. What you can do is get in touch with your local paper and any other publications who might be interested to let them know - they always love an underdog story, and a 23 year-old taking on the biggest car competition out there must be of interest, and all helps to promote the JCC and Jowetts.
Great work. We are all really really proud of you, your car, and I hope you have a few pints with your friends and family to celebrate. We will see you at the NEC to do rather a lot of celebrating and to support you, Leeds City College Restoration Theatre and the Midlands Section Stand.
Jack.

At this stage there is nothing we can do to influence who is overall winner and who the finalists are - as above this is already decided (from the competition rules I can see it should be anyway!)
So really we can do nothing more than spend the next couple of months congratulating Alan and telling anyone that will listen that a 1934 Jowett Long Saloon just got voted as one of the top 5 cars in the country.
I know why, but I am quite surprised at how exciting this is for me, and it's not even my car!

Well you ought to be, it was you that got everyone up in arms and the voters going, the club going and one else who would listen going, to get voting and get the lady/car onto the view of many more potential members! And because of this youv'e managed to put a massive smile on my face all day!Jack wrote:george garside wrote:

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
Alan,
Congratulations, and very well done! It's really fantastic news that you're going to be at the NEC with your car, and I can guarantee that you're going to have a brilliant - if rather manic - weekend. We'll definitely be there to help you fettle the car / celebrate / fettle...
Do let us know if there's anything at all you need a hand with either before the NEC or whilst you're there, whether it's a hand with polishing the night beforehand, or someone to guard the car from sticky fingers whilst you have a wander around the show, just let us know.
Brilliant news, I hope the smile doesn't leave you for some weeks yet
Amy.

Just a thought.
Alan, as a matter of urgency, could you take a higher resolution photograph of your car and forward it to KC to replace the rather poor one displayed on our front page above Amy's Jupiter?
This is what Mr/Mrs Public will see if they access Jowett.org, and it's not up to Forumadmin's usual quality.

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
Thanks yeah the smile still here at the moment. Got talking to a friend last night who was thinking statistically its also quite an acheivement, when you think of all the classics on the road today, then the ones that entered, to get into the top 20, let alone the top 5 its a bit like waoah .
I would imagine the show is a bit like the bristol classic we have down here, but on a larger scale. Thats a lil worrying but all in all should be good.
Tony, I'll place one up on the gallery hopefully he should be able to take one from there. As I don't think ive got his email address. Though the photo I have of that isn't the best of quality to start with. So shall place a few different ones on the gallery to choose

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
The NEC show by the way is on 16,17,18 Nov http://www.necclassicmotorshow.com/. Hopefully the Midland Section might post something on the forum about the arrangements after their meeting on 7th Nov. Paul Beaumont's Jowett Junior article in the October Jowetteer encourages them to come along, but we are too late to encourage people to support Alan via the Jowetteer this month. Perhaps the November Jowetteer will reach our doorsteps in sufficient time for those not aware of this acheivement to be able to plan a visit to NEC to celebrate. Anyhow make sure you get copy to our Jowetteer editor before 20th! Nevertheless spread the word to those not reading this topic by talking, emailing or writing letters.

Alan, I pulled this from photobucket, did you (or someone you know) take the photo and as a result own the copyright etc for it? Just check before we use the image anywhere. Might be worth sending it to the competition organisers too, they may need a few high res images of the car for promotional purposes in advance of the event.

Alan - Firstly 'Bloody well done' - I had a good idea that collectively we could get you to at least this point - (having done it before) - and you all deserve to wear a huge smile on your faces - I have taught Amy all my detailing skills so if you need a team to detail the car on the Friday of the event - let us know - if you need the car trailering to the NEC again let me know asap and I can start to make some arrangements - any chance of you getting to the AGM in ac couple of weeks time - that way we (Amy / Jack / myself could talk any arrangements through with you)
Don't let the wide grin go - you deserve it
