Jowetteer Distribution By E-mail

Post by Jack »

Morning All,

Following 3 months of successful trials with no issues reported, we are now distributing the Jowetteer by e-mail in addition to the print copy sent out each month.

If you would like to be added to the distribution list, please PM me or send me an e-mail and I will add you.

Couple of points to note:

- opting in to the e-mail Jowetteer does not in any way affect your printed copy arriving
- the e-mail is sent on JDD (Jowetter Doormat Day, the same day it arrives on a UK doormat just outside the M25)
- it is sent as a .pdf file, so you will need to download Acrobat if you've not got it already http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
- all e-mail addresses are kept secret from recipients using the BCc field
- to unsubscribe just get in touch with me and I'll remove you from the list

It is expected that the 2013 membership forms will have the option to opt in to the e-mail Jowetteer, and if members are so inclined they can opt out of the printed copy. This option may also be available through the online services currently in development.

Finally copies are also saved to the Gallery for previous months, so you can catch up on back issues if required.

Regards,

Jack.

The November e-mail is going out very shortly - if you would like to be included (even just to see what it looks like on a computer screen!) and have not done so already please PM or e-mail me. You are very welcome to opt in for a "trial issue" if you'd like.

This format works very well on Amazon Kindles and the new (full colour) Kindle Fire device - note that you can download it to the device from your PC fairly easily, or even e-mail it to the Kindle directly. Please let me know if you need any assistance with this, we have discovered that this works very well if in extremely remote locations - we have sent e-mails direct to a Kindle on a cruise ship on the Nile to test capability, and David Mason managed to receive the Jowetteer on his phone in China a few months ago. Never miss a newsletter while on holiday again!

This might also be a good way to engage with the next generation of Jowetteers - ask them for help viewing the file, and you never know they might just take an interest in the newsletter they have previously not picked up.

Jack.

Hi Jack,

We have friends who are members in Austrailia and Tasmania, who have asked if they could receive copies of the Jowetteer by electronic means, to avoid the cost and delays of postage and printing. When their request was made, we did not have the opportunity as our Jowetteers were still only available in printed format. They already send us copies of their local Jowetteers. Can I ask if they could be added to your list?

Many thanks,

David

Two weeks ago I emailed all international members and some have already replied. There is only one member in Aus and one in NZ who has not provided an email address, but hopefully they have all been informed as I asked members in those countries to contact them. Note the renewal form has the option on it anyway.

They certainly can, please pm me with their e-mail address and i'll add them on.

Are their local newsletters on e-mail? If so, can we get onto the distribution list and save them in the gallery for the future?

I am pleased to let you all know that JDD (Jowetteer Doormat Day) happened on a Saturday at Chez Moon, and as a result the e-mail has just gone out.

Please let us know if you have any problems viewing the file, any feedback on the e-mail, or just want to share how much you are enjoying the additional communication!

Jack - On behalf of the membership 'Thankyou' - this is a great leap forward - very helpful in my case - my printed format 'Jowetteer' has yet to arrive - hence the electronic one fits the bill - also very helpful for when I am away on business and not back home for several weeks !!

Thanks all, do remember that I am quite literally just the messenger!

Through the trials and subsequent launch I have got to see just a small part of the hard work put in by Alan Brierley, Steve Waldenburg and others in bringing this to us every month, and it is quite a feat. Hopefully this method of delivery adds to your enjoyment, all I have to do is forward the e-mail to the right people each month!

You may be interested to know that the number of people opting in to this type of distrubution doubled this month (for security reasons you may have noticed that you are unable to see each others e-mail addresses on the distribution list), and that is almost all people who have opted in through the forum. Once the Jowetteer lands on doormats we may see further people opting in to this method in addition to their print copies.

Update, we are now receiving membership forms with e-mail addresses included to opt in to the e-mail Jowetteer. The distribution list has doubled in size, which is quite something considering the Jowetteer only landed on your doorstep a week ago!

Thanks to all those who have been so prompt in returning their membership forms, I know it helps Bob & Mo, and the sooner you return your forms with e-mail addresses, the sooner we can get you on the distribution list.

You can still opt in by e-mailing or PMing me, but note you cannot opt out of the printed copy by doing so - that must be through your membership form to avoid any confusion.

Thank you for all your work in setting this up.
I have also opted to have an email copy of the Jowetteer sent to me, as well as still receiving it through the post, but I must stress, in my case, that the printed copy is VERY MUCH preferred as a reference copy, although the email copy does let us know what's out there much quicker.

Tony,
Although printed versions might have some advantage for reference, you can now search through back copies of the Jowetteer in the Gallery. Also I find that reference on my tablet means that printed copies do not get greasy finger marks on them, or get dog eared through carrying in the car.

I could improve the search facility but this would mean letting Google see them! What do we think about that?

We still need some people to take on the task of scanning all the old Jowetteers into pdf so that they can be archived and searchable!

Remember the Legacy project?
