As the 90 years of Jcc rally basingstokes theme is to be in period costume. Could anyone suggest what sort of fashions were around back in the days of Jowett, spanning throughout the era, I think it would help a few people out for ideas, and get the right sort of fashion for their car.
Wasnt it one of the jowett brothers who had an infamous brown workshop coat?

I find a good place to start is to look at photos. The internet makes this very easy, somewhere like Flickr has got more photos than a person could look at in a lifetime! Start here where I searched for "1930s photos": http://www.flickr.com/groups/44309031@N00/
As a friend often tells me, the art of dressing up is accessories. Formal dress for men really hasn't changed much over the years, with the exception of a few moments of madness between the 60s and 80s it seems, but you are definitely going to need some kind of hat, and all kinds of things can be picked up on ebay or in charity shops.
You will also find a lot of shops are now picking up 40s and 50s fashion trends, so if you venture into some of the bigger chains you might find a bargain or two in the January sales.
Jack.

Re: Period Clothing
having just had to stand round in a Matalan shop for an hour of so whilst her indoors farted about shopping I dicovered that they sell 'trilby' like hats for £6 and a passable 'cloth cap' for £4. so I suppose my time was not completely wasted!
