Closure of Mouldsworth Motor Museum Cheshire

Post by paul wilks »

Some of you might remember Dennis Mitchell arranging the club’s visit to Mouldsworth Motor Museum, Cheshire some years ago. (I think Dennis arranged the visit!) It is based in a former water treatment works building near Helsby, Cheshire. Unfortunately after something like forty years the museum is closing its doors. A planned increase in the rent has meant the enterprise is no longer viable. The story appeared on BBC North West TV on Monday 14th January.

At one stage the museum was host to a metallic grey Javelin, I think it might have belonged to former member Peter Yarwood of nearby Helsby. The museum is full of interesting artefacts as well as interesting cars. A friend of mine has a lovely and original Austin Seven as well as a spare Austin Seven chassis and running gear on display. I don’t know where he’s going to keep them now!

Last summer I paid I visit to the museum with my Austin Seven friend in our Javelin. The owner, a lovely man by the name of Mr James Peacop, was so excited to see the Javelin. “We had one of these on display,” he told me. I told him I remembered it.

Cars which are owned by Mr Peacop are to be auctioned off, I believe, in March.

Some of the vehicles in the museum are to be auctioned by Brightwells at Leominster on March 6th.
