Not surprised it spun, the steering geometry would be screwed after shortening the chassis!

What an amazing 'find'! The registration number seems to be FAW998. I've sent an email to Eden Lindsay to see whether he can identify it. Looking at the variegated colour scheme, it seems to have been in a few scrapes, which may explain why it had been 'reduced'. It seems to be a PA, so at the time would only have been around 10 years old. It does seem to be rather drastic surgery for a 10 year old car. I think the Jim Russell driving school still exists, so I may put out a few feelers in that direction to see if we can garner any more info.

Would have saved a bit of weight for sure. I've been in touch with the Jim Russell school, which now appears to be based in Canada. The enquiry seems to be circulating within their organisation, so something might come of it. Jim Russell himself was born in 1920, but I think may still be alive and well, (because one of the JR guys has sent him an eamil  )along with his wife Jennie. Will report back if I find out more...
