First Aid List
By popular request I have added a First Aid Service to Jowett Internet Services. This brings up a Google map with all JCC members pinned to it.
You can do some of the usual things such as zooming in our out, and panning around to find the area you want. Then hover over a pin to show the name and telephone number of the member.
Access is controlled by Jowett Internet Services so you need to have registered, activated your account and then logged in.
You can read about the services here.
The service is only available to JCC members. When you logon the system checks if you are a member (currently based on September 2012 list). You will not gain access to the map and members' details unless your logged on email address matches the membership list.
When membership update is done online then access privilege will be updated immediately.
Please click on the button below and then use the map to find a member. Use the zoom control and then hover over the selected pin to reveal name and phone number. Please use responsibly.
The pins had to be manually encoded into latitude and longitude as Google restricts what can be done. So my fingers have RSI from doing 638*10 cut an pastes. But I am listening to the test match and it is too hot to go outside.
Other information can be added to the pop up such as First Aid codes or email so please send a letter to our secretary if you want that included and it will be discussed at the next exec.
Note this map only has current JCC members on it and not those from JOAC, NAJR, JCCNZ or JCCA. It does not have Former Jowett Employees on it.

Re: First Aid List
Tried this on the touchscreen of my tablet and android phone and the mouseover on top of the pins does not work. So back to the programming drawing board. This is a known restriction of touchscreens so hopefully there is a known solution.

Re: First Aid List
Completely updated system now takes information from the current membership list in a SQL database.
It now works with tablets and smart phones with touch screens and brings up an information panel with name, phone number and address, plus it gives you the option to get directions to the selected member's house, by car, public transport or foot! Note that a few addresses may need some altering to get Google Maps to accept them. House names are sometimes troublesome, but when we get on-line update of the membership list such issues should start to go away.
Rather than mouse over the marker you now click over it, so it is best to zoom in (using the slider on the left) so that you can be more accurate. Covers the whole world and I hope to add those in the clubs in Aus, NZ and US at some point.
The system can easily add other info (such as First Aid Codes or cars owned) to the retrieved data in a future incarnation as this is all in the database.
Should still be secure and only open to JCC members. But let me know if you can hack it!

Re: First Aid List
Is there a way of storing this as a file which can be sent to people if they requested it?
Currently wondering if it would require an internet connection, even if a smartphone or tablet data connection, to work. Have I got that right? If so there are a whole lot of places that data connections aren't available, and sod's law the one place you have broken down will be the one place you need it.
If it were a file that I could store on my phone or other device then it would be accessible any time without internet required, though might not be 100% up to date the membership list and first aid contacts tends to vary only slightly from year to year.
Jack.

I looked at North America, but didn't see any members located there, just miscellaneous comments posted by non members.

Robin,
Please go to the first post in this thread and use the link there, or go to Jowett.net and login to Jowett Internet Services. Robin, you will need to register... Choose First Aid from the pop up drop down list.
What you were looking at is the guest book set up about 10 years ago! All JCC members are on the new map from all over the world.
Jack,
The data can be manipulated with any query. Please advise what queries you would like.
Storing this data on a phone is not advisable due to insecurity. If your phone is connected to network, you have Internet connection.

Re: First Aid List
That explains what I was looking at. I was going to register until I saw the need for a 12 character password. I am fed up with creating passwords, and to have a 12 character one, might be appropriate for the Bank of England, but this is only a car club. Sorry I must be getting old an cantankerous.

Re: First Aid List
Robin,
Just use an easy to remember pass phrase. Note that you do not need to remember a username (just your email address) so there is some saving in doing it this way.
I know it is a pain trying to remember all the passwords you need and I could have used facilities like Microsoft Passport or Google login but that then locks us into those proprietary authentication services.
It is a car club but the Jowett Internet Services hold personal details and will in future do transactions and hence the need for some authentication security. The authentication is based on you responding on the email address you supplied when registering and that email address agreeing with the email address supplied to the membership secretary. That way the system is fairly sure you are who you say you are and not an imposter. Believe me over the years I have had many attempts to get into the Gallery and Forum and each year new measures are required to thwart the hackers.
Passwords of less than 12 characters can be easily broken and this system is without other credentials that are used on systems with simpler passwords.
I am working on making the Jowett Internet Services login screen automatically login to JowettTalk and JowettGallery so there will be 4 more credentials you (or your computer) does not have to remember.
Apologies for this 'in development' period but the reward is having services that are very useful for club members.

Re: First Aid List
First Aid list has now been updated with all new changes as of last week.
I have added to the program a great facility which highlights new members with a green marker. So there is no reason why you should not contact them and make them feel welcome.
