Can I use one of the photos to put on facebook to share across to friends? And hopefully grab some more votes?

We need to keep up momentum with voting. Please ask friends and family to get online, share on social networks and send people the link.

Every time you visit a friend, ask if they would mind spending 2 minutes on the computer helping out, or if they have a phone that can connect to the internet that will do.

Only a few days left now, we need to pull out all the stops to go for the Jowett hat-trick!

I have shared the link/photo on facebook several times, and have gone through quite a few people on friends lists so hopefully it may bump it up a bit more. Good Luck Paul. And get voting Jowetteers!

I notice that the 2013 membership list has email addresses for a large majority of members . Is it possible to do a mass email using the list ?. My IT skills are about zero, but I am sure those more gifted could alert members to the need to vote ? Bob

Hi Bob,

Good thinking. I've sent a request with the electronic delivery of the September Jowetteer that went out on e-mail to a large number of members, but we have to be fairly cautious as a club about using the e-mail addresses of members too frequently for circulation e-mails such as this (as opposed to individual members having an e-mail address for each other from the membership list)

Perhaps we could combine this with the notice reminding members of the date and venue of the AGM and minutes from previous meeting - this is critical information that needs to go out to the membership, and obviously we can ask nicely in the same e-mail whether members would be prepared to go and vote for Paul's car while they are online.

Jack, My IT skills are v. low but I am sure it is possible to do distribution emails and conceal the email addresses ,if that is the issue . If they are all shown or accessible anyone can assemble the list and use it uncontrolled. However it is best if the message goes to members on email from a recognised Officer of the Club since individual members would not normally have the computerised list of email addresses Although they are in the printed membership list it would be a very big effort to create a computerised list , I assume the one used for the magazine is electronically selected from a membership data base and the list is not accessible to all? SPAM SPAM SPAM. as the Monty Python sketch goes.
Mail systems nowadays recognise mass emails and will tend to block or blacklist senders.
I have a program on Jowett Internet services available to administrators that allows mass (in this case personalised) emails. This was used recently to send emails to members in the vicinity of two events and an extract was also given to an organiser of another event. The challenge is getting under the radar of the spam blocking systems. All manner of criteria are used for detecting spam. But a common one is the number of emails sent from one IP address. This may be anything from 30 to 100 emails per hour or a max of 30 addressees per email.
Thus in conjunction with the mass email program you need a program to throttle the sending of emails. the safest way to do this is to send from your personal email address and then the Jowett.net site does not get blacklisted. This also has the advantage that any non-deliveries are notified to the sender.
I have offered this service to Paul who then asked me to do it. A mass email went out from the JowettTalk email system but there were some issues which, because of Goodwood, I did not have time to resolve.

Some great and very modest comments from Alan Bartlett on his win in 2012, note it is now 24 HOURS TO GO BEFORE VOTING CLOSES! http://ccoty.co.uk/bgbt_home.php

Please make sure you have gone and voted, and asked your friends and family to vote - don't forget to tick the box if you don't want to receive any marketing info, and remember that every vote counts!

We are up against 30 strong entries, so it is really important everybody makes the effort with this, no harm in reminding friends on Facebook or asking a colleague or two at work to help out.

Just in case anyone missed this, Paul's car has got into the top 5, and will be at the NEC in November.

This means Paul has won a few prizes, and also is in with the chance of being overall winner, as well as being on the Lancaster Insurance/Classic Car of the Year stand at the NEC.

Great work Paul! You can see his car, his story, and that of the other finalists on the website: http://ccoty.co.uk/bgbt_showcase.php

See you all at the NEC.

Well hopefully it will be a busy weekend at the NEC - we will be there, the Classic Car of the Year stand should be Hall 9, Stand 220.

The winner will be announced on Saturday it seems, so everyone in suspense to see whether Paul's car is overall winner!
