Hi there, I'm new to this forum so hope this is in the right place, I'm currently looking for a jowett javelin passenger side wing, condition not to important as other panels need work anyway and I'm working to a budget, I'm based in easy anglia, any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Sam,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you checked with Jowett Car Spares? They are the spares facility run by the club, and open on Monday evenings - details in the front of the Jowetteer.

If you are not a member of the club they can't sell to you, but if you are looking for Jowett parts you probably want to join up anyway.

Finally not sure if you want front or rear wing from your post - worth confirming. If it is a front wing, is it a late/deluxe wing with larger headlight or an early/standard wing with smaller headlight?

If you've got a project on the go please feel free to share pics - you will find everybody very keen to help with parts, technical advice and even getting involved if they can see what you are up to and how it is going.

From about 1980 to '87 ex WD Jowett stationary engine. (Sold on)
From 1966 to present, 1930 Long Four Fabric Saloon, Dark Blue / Black.
Taken in a part-repaired state to the 2010 Centenary Rally, returned to a roadworthy state by 2013.

Welcome to the Forum. This is the right place to find help and advice - although I cannot offer much myself! I owned and ran Javelins from the mid 60s to the mid 80s but I have only had a vintage car to play with since then.

Jack is absolutely right though, join the club and you will also find a number of members in your general area, some of whom will be able / pleased (?)! to offer help too.

As I said above, welcome aboard, now share your triumphs / failures with the rest of us - you will usually find sympathy!

Hello Sam, from a pre-war Jowett owner.
I agree with Jack and Ian, if you're serious about restoring a Javelin, then the membership fee for the Club is well worth it. The Spares Company has numerous bits.

If it doesn't, then post a query and we'll sort you out!!

Thanks for the replies guys, will look into to joining the club if nessercary to obtain parts, it is a front wing, not sure which type off the top of my head as I haven't collected the car yet

Hi Sam

I've had a Javelin since 1967- my first car and I still own her! She ran until 1977 that is until the kids came along keeping me busy and taking up my spare time! She was then off the road for 34 years!! I tell you all of this because it was only with the help of members of the Jowett Car Club that I was able to get her back on the road in 2011. The Club is about more than getting parts. It's all about support, help, encouragement, advice and more! They are a truly friendly bunch. You'll be able to join your local section of the club, attend meetings which aren't boring with great long agendas (unlike some other organisations I belong to!) chat about problems 'face to face' as well as using this forum.

I hope that is enough and I have convinced you of the value of joining! But if I haven't then so be it! But we would still be interested in your Javelin or any other Jowett you might purchase for that matter. There is a wealth of experience, knowledge, know-how, and willing helpers to put you on the right track, believe me.

All the very best to you and your car irrespective of what you decide, Sam.

Hi Sam,

You can usually tell from a photo if you have one - post up a link if it is online somewhere. What year is the car?

It is not just for parts, but yes they can't sell to you if you are not a member. There is a huge amount of help available within the club and access to events like the annual rally and newsletter that make it well worth a few quid a year.

What Paul was too modest to mention is that his car was shortlisted to the last five in the Classic Car of the Year at the NEC earlier this year.

This was the culmination of a HUGE amount of work on a car that might otherwise have gone to that great motorway in the sky!

To follow his story, make a 'Search' (Box at top right of screen) for 'Yellow Peril'. I think you might get encouragement.

A word of warning - DON'T BE IN TOO MUCH OF A HURRY TO TAKE IT TO BITS!

Take loads of photos from every possible angle - and then some more in close up.

They will repay you ten times over in your future endeavours.

Gee! Thanks for those kind words Ian. But I will say again to Sam, I couldn't have done it without a lot of help from friends in the Jowett Car Club (you know who you are) and the good offices of the Jowett Car Spares and their fantastic volunteers. They helped me to finally get 'Yellow Peril' back on the road after I had put a hell of a lot of work in but had hit a brick wall (I think many of you will know that feeling too well!) I was almost on the point of throwing in the towel and just leaving her ('Yellow Peril' that is!) in the garage to be "discovered" after I had shuffled off this mortal coil. I kid you not. That's how bad I felt. :(

Since getting her back on the road it has been great! Her appearance always raises a smile and I know the colour isn't everyone's cup of tea :wink:

One thing. I do regret now not taking photos, Ian and would always advise people to do this as they go along. It's okay relying on memory (well, actually it's not!) but it is far better to have recorded proof of what you've done. A Before and After sort of thing.

Join the club, Sam. You won't regret it. They are a great bunch of people with loads of advice and help.

Photographs are all very well and are a must, but a sketch pad and pencil are surprisingly of much more use, as you can also write salient points against the drawings, and jot down quirky things.

You'll decide that you can remember all that you are dismantling and in what order, but that's ok if you're going to put it all back within 3 days!! When Christmas, and the New Year, and booking summer holidays, and Easter have all come and gone, and it's the middle of July next year, I'll bet you've forgotten it all unless it's written down.
