I agree with Tony's recommendation to keep existing bearing if it is in reasonable condition . Clean it thoroughly and grease it before you make a decision to replace it.

Like Tony I have no experience of replacing back axle bearings on 7hp models and the need to do so must have been quite rare as I can't find any reference to it in Jowett literature.

Hello Jowett colleges,

I think to come to Jowett Rally this year. My wonderful girlfriend will attend me.
Do you think its okay if we come to Manchester airport and drive by taxi or bus to the Jowett rally?
I hope there is a apartment small claim near Lyme Park, Stockport. Can you recommend me a good address?


I think there are a lot of conversation to chance technical informations about Jowett and other topics.
Also other Jowetts specially my model are interesting to see live for me.

The plan is to come per plain to Manchester, on 22th may, to visit Jowett rally and colleges
on 25. may we want to go per train to London and stay three days before we fly from heathrow airport back to Stuttgart.

Hi Marcel,
I am sure we can arrange transport in a Jowett from the rally to Heathrow and you can stay at my place which is only 30 minutes by train to central London. My place is 20 minutes to Heathrow on a good day of traffic .

I would advise that you book through the club into the same hotel as everyone else (if possible) - this means you will get a lot of time to talk to other members and enjoy the cars, and there is always someone with transport to the field day and on the scenic tour. The dinners and drinks each evening are enjoyable and I know there will be at least a couple of members who speak German too. That said, language never seems to be a barrier after a couple of drinks at the rally!

It is not the cheapest weekend away if you sign up for the package, but it is a better experience if you are in the same place as everyone else. If you need a hand with the forms please just ask, I would suggest if you choose another hotel to look at Tripadvisor and Google maps to find something close and highly rated (though members locally might be able to advise)

We are in the next road to Keith, and will be around if you stay there after the rally, you are welcome here too. Alternatively there are one or two hotels within 1km that are reasonably cheap if you prefer. Trains run every 30 mins to Euston from our house, much better to stay here than to stay in centre of London (£££) plus you can help with fixing up my Bradford

I will already be in Macclesfield on the 22 May, in my 2-seater Jowett, so I am sorry that I can't come to meet you at Manchester airport when you arrive.
I will write to the people in charge of the Rally to see if we can help you to come.

Hello Jowett colleagues, I think to come to Jowett Rally this year. My wonderful girlfriend Anna will come with me. Many greetings from Gschwend

Well, Marcel and Anna came to the Rally, and thanks to various Jowett members, they were picked-up from Manchester airport and transported to Shrigley Hall. They were offered rides in Jowetts to the Rally field and on the Run on Sunday. KC, I'm told sorted the subsequent travel to the South and arranged their 'taxi' to the airport for the flight back to Germany.
What a lovely couple. They were so interested in what was on show and entered into the spirit of things so easily. I think Anna was a little less interested than Marcel in the engines at the Anston museum, but overall I'm sure they went away with good feelings of what it means to be members of the Jowett car Club.
What a nice touch from the NW team at the dinner to honour all the overseas guests with a flag of their country to place on their dinner table. It was wonderful to see such attention to detail over and above the necessities of the weekend.
If you read this Marcel, perhaps you might send a letter to the Editor of the Jowetteer magazine to tell us all about your experiences of the Rally. I think he would print it in a future edition of the Club magazine.

M&A spent 3 days chez Clements with its 30 mins into LOndon rail connection they spent most of the time there. Anna rode back with Amy in the SC and now wants one! Marcel has promised to get the pre-war to Lake Constanz Swiss rally in 2018. Marcel is an accomplished restorer so anyone wanting work done....?
Yes it would be good for more people to tell others about what is going on in their Jowett world. Jack commented how few of our members seem to do that, and to participate in, let alone help organise, events.
Such encouragement as Tony's is what we should all be doing, particularly on ourselves.

I'm afraid I missed the rally again, as it seems to coincided with both my sons' birthdays each year, but I'd be very interested to see more details of the Swiss Rally. I haven't see this mentioned before. Is it a Jowett Rally, or more general?

Hi Barry,

It is at the embryonic stage at the moment, though knowing the organisers it will rapidly become very well organised and well publicised through the forum and Jowetteer. Peter Pfister is the man to stay in touch with. I am sure you will be very welcome.

Edit - this will be a Jowett rally, though I'm sure nobody would mind if you wanted to bring another classic for us to look at!

It was such a nice time at the Jowett Rally. It was very helpfull for me for asked many questions there.

On Saturday I picked up my construction from the woodmaker.

Hi Marcel,

Great progress, the body looks good, and should give you lots of momentum to keep going!

The leaf spring joint is called a shackle, the prewar specialists should be able to confirm but it looks similar to the Bradford shackles which are likely to be fairly easy to get either from JCS used spares or from members spares. Can someone confirm if these are the same size? If so an e-mail to Paul Beaumont is probably sensible.
