I notice that timing chains on Javelins and my 1930 car have links with parallel side plates.
Standard roller chain has side plates that are sort of 'bone' or figure 8 shape but are otherwise apparently identical in terms of roller diameter, pitch and width.
Are the two types really interchangeable?
'Proper' parallel-sided link timing chain seems to be in short supply so an alternative could be useful.
Anyone know technical details here?

Re: Timing chains
Hi Ian
The timing chain and valve springs I ordered from JCS for my twin turned up a few days ago and the the link for the chain is parallel sided, rather than dog bone. Apparently, the dynamo is nearly done, so I might be able to fit it shortly

Re: Timing chains
Tony/Barry et al:-
Thanks for the replies. It's good to know that supplies are available - at least for now - but I am thinking in the longer term.
I don't know of any engines that are being made with timing chains of the parallel- sided type links,(normally timing belts these days?), but standard roller chain with 1/2" pitch is likely to be around for a while yet.
Anyone else got a view?
