Displaying your cars

Post by Forumadmin »

Keith Andrews says New Zealand members are interested in displaying their cars on the Internet.

I have thought that Jowett.org needs some pictures of our cars to attract new members. So please send me a picture that shows your car at its best with some textural information that you might put on a plaque at a show: such as year, model, owner, brief history and other interesting notes about the car and its life.

If you can, upload the picture and the notes to JowettGallery. I can then link them to jowett.org/cars-of-members page.

Who is going to be first?

We can even run a poll for the best picture and write up.

The easiest way to do this is to make certain areas of the gallery public
E.G
http://www.jowett.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1441

And have a sections for each club and/or country
Set permissions so only members can upload to these sections.
Many of the NZ cars can be viewed here
http://www.jowettnz.sytes.net/memcarNZ.html
Clk on the categories Bradford , javelin to go to individual galleries

There is also a garage mod for phpbb forums
This can be custom setup up
An example can be seen here
http://fuelsforum.rasoenterprises.com/index.php
clk on the garage link at the top of the page
and it takes you here
http://fuelsforum.rasoenterprises.com/garage.php

And the code can be downloaded here

We need to be careful about allowing public access to parts of the Gallery. I discourage members changing folders to allow public viewing by suggesting that individual items only can be explicitly allowed. The site is advertised as being for club members only. Members should feel confident that any comments they make are not for public viewing.

If you relax the permissions on any of the folders, you must get explicit permission of the owners of each item making sure they understand the risks of allowing public access. The items may contain personal information which they may not want viewable by people who may have criminal intent.

Perhaps not a problem in the North Island; but a real problem in U.K.

Althu I have admin rights...As an admin AND owner of several other websites, I do not feel comfortable changing permissions.
I will add members when have problems, activate, upload on behalf and sopport, delete or move inappropiate materal etc as a moderator would.
Permissions are in my book the relm of site owner, not moderators and sub admins.

There should also be hidden forums sections, admin groups, members only etc....where behind the scences stuff canbe disscussed in private.
Also useful when a thread becomes controversial, a moderator can move to the hiiden admin section for further appraisal.....
As it is locking and deleting are the only opitions
