Bradford steering wheel

Post by Alastair Gregg »

Hello All,

Can anyone confirm that the Bradford steering wheel is Aluminium. The previous owner on D8 CB 14285 wrapped green tape round it. There seems to be an original paint/coating of black. However this has crumbled in several places and what appears to be corroding Aluminium underneath. What has been done in previous restorations please????

The one on my CB Bradford is aluminum. Don't know what the original finish is. Mine was re-coated at at Plastic coatings company about 25 years ago and looks the same as original.

I have two spare ones that came from CC Bradfords, both are coated aluminum so that would appear to be the way they were supplied.

If yours is not recoverable then you are welcome to one of my spares.

Jack Moon has also replied to this post but by e-mail as he seems to have trouble logging in.

Thanks Steve, I will try to restore what I have, but if I am unsuccesful I may well PM you. I have now started to fit new parts to what was formerly D8 CB 14285. So all very exciting.

Definitely aluminium. They had two styles, aluminium & I am guessing for the deluxe a wire wheel, which to me was much nicer.
Good memories of Bradfords.

Thanks David,

The white crumbly corrosion was a bit of a give away. Am aiming to get it sympathetically blasted and coated avoiding the ID and Keyway. Thanks for your confirmation.
