1928 Jowett 7hp Long 2 Tourer
Hi everyone,
Its been a long time since I was on here. Around 6 years ago now I brought a 1928 Jowett 7hp Long 2 Tourer PY8446 and joined the club. Unfortuantly / fortunately (!) I left the UK unexpectedly a few months after buying this and so it has sat in my mother's garage awaiting my return. That return doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, and so it is with much regret I am going to have to sell it, for no other reason than to let my mother have her garage back! I thought I would see if anyone on here was interested before it goes on eBay as I would much rather it goes to a club member.
When I brought the car it was running and I had a few great little trips in it. As I say though, it has been in a garage for 6 years which while water tight, has meant the tyres are gone (they were old anyway) and I havent tried to get it back into running condition. So this will need to be trailered and have quite some work done on it. Ive attached some photos and if anyone has any questions, please do let me know (my email is scuba_sharks@hotmail.com). The photo on the driveway is from 6 years ago, the other photos are as of now. I have more photos I am happy to email.
Pricewise, I am open to suggestions. I was hoping for around 1000 pounds, but if you think I have misjudged this I welcome any feedback! The car is located in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.
Many thanks,
Ross

I recall seeing it in your garage when it still needed rather a lot doing to it. Rather a long time ago.

Doesn't seem over the top for an original registered vintage Jowett, if it works.

Re: 1928 Jowett 7hp Long 2 Tourer
Hey folks so PY is now in my ownership! I've had a fair bit of fun in the last few weeks blasting around the country lanes of Kent in it! The plan is to try to keep it looking oily rag whilst trying to sort things like the iffy wiring, sticking float and other mechanical gremlins. First on my list is a new set of points and condenser...can anyone tell me what part number I should be asking for? Its still on 6V with the distributor mounted on top of the engine. The points are barely in existence and its spitting back well, I assume from the poor gap and their overall poor condition, I will clean them up if pushed but would rather get a new set in. So any suggestions as to what I need to order will be most welcome.

Hi Paul
I have a near identical car which is also a bit of an oily rag. The aim is to get it mechanically 100%, but I like to use it regularly and not be too paranoid about it getting scratched by the kids etc if it was too shiney. Might take away a bit of if's character too. For some reason, mine has the later engine fitted, but for points and condenser, I'd try Jowett Car Spares (open this evening 7-9) as I'm always surprised by what they have in stock for the pre-war models. If it's been stood for years, I'd be tempted to treat it to a set of plug leads and plugs. Experience with older things tells me the coils often start to break down once they are woken from their slumber, especially the first time they get really hot, so if the points and condenser don't cure it, I'd try another coil.

Roaming round my Jowett photos on the computer, I came across these three photos of Paul's car whilst it was in Accrington at a friend's some time ago, waiting to be re-commissioned after being purchased at auction.

Hello again Paul.
I see from your profile that you are not a member of the Jowett Car Club (yet?), and perhaps will find difficulty in sourcing parts from our Jowett Spares Department, as you need to be a member to do this.
You'll never regret joining, not only for the parts source, but for the rest of the benefits.
Tony.

Hey Chaps
Sorry I hadn’t got around to joining the club yet but it’s on my to do list. I hadn’t appreciated jowett spares existed either! I’ve managed to secure points and condenser but haven’t figured out the dynamo yet. Will get signed up and then think about that! It’s got a new coil and ignition leads and cap so hopefully the points will help. Think she needs some new plugs though!
Really brilliant to see the Pics and I suspect I might be back soon asking for some advice from you all!
