steering rack

Anyone know of a replacement steering rack for a Jupiter? RHD? Morris minor? Morris 1100?

Somewhere on this site is a thread about using a RHD Morris rack. A Minor rack and a Spridget are the same IIRC. The mounting requires welding brackets to the rear uprights of the radiator mount. The tie rod arms need to be lengthened and the tie rod ends addressed. The racks can be purchased new from Rimmer Bros in the UK.

All you need is a morris 1000 steering rack and a piece of 2inch by two inch angle iron bolting into the lugs which held the Jowett rack then you need a pair of extender/thread converters from JOAC spares . Set it all up and adjust where the steering is set then bolt the steering rack to the angle iron (you may wish to weld a bracket on to make this easy. If you also get the morris 1000 steering column you dont have to bother with universal joints as you can alter the angle of the column by twisting. this is not the first one to be done this way because Frank Woolley told me how to do it. They are not the same. Hope you find some. If not it would be worth getting a batch made.

Thanks Keith

I have made enquiries into getting a batch made and have been told it will cost a few thousand, as it will need cad drawings or get them cast and then machined
As it is on the steering, you can't take short cuts and everything will need to be heat treated etc

Any guidance on manufacturing would be appreciated

I have one spare which we could use to make a drawing. I assume you have tried JCS. I think Bill Lock may have some.

Do you need them to look original?
If not go to a hotrod shop many here in OZ sell steering arm blanks for people to modify to their own use.

I have been enquiring about the possibility of having some made, as they are like Hen's teeth. The problem is a set of drawings with ALL the measurements is required, before anyone will consider it. If I can get past step 1, to step 2 (i.e. finding someone prepared to do it), then we can move on to price & numbers.

If not a CAD drawing would an engineers' drawing suffice?

Providing ALL measurements are included, an engineers drawing would suffice. I have been talking to someone tonight, about possible manufacture. Can we tell what they were made from originally? that would also be very helpful.
