Jupiter accelerator pedal

Post by conrod »

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I could use for a Jupiter accelerator pedal as my one is missing ?

Early Jupiters used the Javelin 'roller' type pedal. I'm sure one of those should be obtainable.

Otherwise, if you could borrow a Jupiter pedal, I don't think it would be a difficult thing to have fabricated (or make yourself).

I'm sorry I can't help in either case.

I do not see how the Javelin pedal could be made to fit into a Jup and would be interested to learn.
The mechanism inside the pedal is quite complex. Perhaps we could find one to copy over the winter.
The alternative is to find a 'modern' pedal that would do the job although most these days are suspended from the top.

The Javelin type pedal is shown in situ on a Jupiter on page 60 of “Jowett Javelin and Jupiter” by Geoff and Edmund, but the detail of the mounting is not clear from the photo.

I've a vague recollection that at our recent JCC national AGM, somewhere in the discussion it was said that there were numerous technical drawings of Javelin and Jupiter models stored somewhere. Perhaps these pedal drawings are included.

As far as I know I have digitized all the known drawings and they are in the Gallery. There is not one of the pedal. I had to make the base of a pedal for Amy's SC which is not difficult. It is the mechanism which needs more skill and patience to reproduce.

If you click on Service Bulletins under Jupiter, scroll to the bottom, click on technical tips, at the top of the page you will see ‘accelerator pedal’ click on this & at the bottom is a drawing of the Jupiter accelerator pedal.
If the Javelin one fits as mentioned this might be the best option.

Forgot about doing that some 18 years ago.
Just shows how long Jowett Talk has been going and how useful it is to be able to search through it!

Also shows how long it took to rebuild Amy's Jup.
