G'dday From The Sunny But Windy South,
Last Sunday we set off at 6:00 am, in the late autumnal darkness, for the 31st running of the Historic Winton Race Meetind. We did the round trip in a finely fettled black PB Javelin, run by Richard Homersham. As we motored most capably through the Great Dividing Range we struck some low lying mist near a place called Bonnie Doon. All of a sudden our mighty Javelin reduced its pace and began to falter in the engine department. We pulled over and up went the bonnet. We had scored two large, bigger than cricket balls, lumps of gleaming ice around the throttle bodies. we waited for it all to melt and set off again. The carbies iced up twice more along the way.
Another interesting point - the bonnet had a band of wet condensation accross the front, above the air cleaner. I have never seen this happen on my Javelin, despite some carburettor icing happenings.
Has anyone out there experienced this bonnet wetting?
We now have a saying:
Carburettor Icing Before Seven - Superb Sunshine Before Eleven.
The day at Winton was a perfect clear sky sunny day and we had a most enjoyable time. The Javelin won a prize in the Classic Car Display at the meeting. The result was announced over the Tannoy, so a bit more publicity for the Jowett.
Regards,
Mike Allfrey.
