JowettTalk down

Post by Forumadmin »

The Forum has been unavailable for at least 24 hrs due to its database server having problems.

I raised a support request; but the server status was already showing SQL problems. This does happen occasionally and they were probably very short staffed due to the floods that have devastated the area. I decided not to invoke failover as Jowett.org and JowettGallery were still functioning.

Seems that jowett.org attracts major disasters; the last being sited next to the largest explosion in Europe during peacetime! Now it is the worst floods this century. :?

Note that failover is manual and no easy task! One day I will make it automatic; but then there is a danger of loosing posts or Gallery items as I would revert to last back up. It might even be possible to keep the back-up site in synch; but that is even more work. When I retire and when I get my Javelin fixed!

You may have noticed I posted a status in Jowett.org.

I did indeed take notice of the notice, after noticing the notice and thank you for keeping us informed as best you could.

Before seeing the note I had sensed there just might have been a little too much water about and that was giving further grief in the form of communications breaking down! I know power supplies are in trouble!

We in NZ can appreciate the worry and angst of you folk on the other side of the world with the 100 to 150 year floods and storms . . . it's happening here too . . . at the same bloody time!

We used to say "the world's changing" in relation to social and politcs etc . . . but I'm afraid it's a very noticable "changing world" weather wise . . . and changing more and more rapidly. Maybe we're reacting . . . but maybe it's too late. I hope not. I for one have lovely Grandchildren and they (and their children) don't deserve to inherit our (and out forefather's) follies.

There, I've preached my lesson for today . . . I was going to just say "thanks for the notice"! . . . got carried away!
