Sunday June 24th was the Classic Rally organised by NECPWA and held at Sledmere House in Yorkshire.
My Javelin was entered in the Post War to 1960 class. The judges had a difficult job faced with such a wide range of marques. They were wise men though and selected the 1952 Javelin for the "Second" in Class. They were impressed by the unique style and design and general condition.
I know it is not the best Javelin in the Jowett Club but after 55 years it was chosen as next to the best of all those there. It is good to fly the Jowett flag at multi marque events so others can see we are at or near the top!
A look around the Autojumble followed. On a stall with one of the widest ranges of motoring magazines I spotted a "Thoroughbred and Classic Cars" publication of February 1977 with a Three page article in the Classic Choice series. What of? The Jowett Javelin!
Arthur and Ray Wood and Tony Pluckrose were credited with helping in the production of this excellent article. It commences with the comment "When details of the new Jowett Javelin were first made public in June 1946, the Motor magazine confidently prefaced its article "A Thoroughbred Makes its Debut". And so it proved to be even today. It is of interest that GKY264 was featured on the front cover.

"Classic Choice" The Jowett Javelin
Well done Keith! A splendid result. You say you know "it is not the best Javelin in the Jowett Club" but it is still a very desirable Javelin. Wish mine was as splendid!
All the best

Just as a side note, Arthur is my Grandfather and that was his car (GKY 264) on the front of the magazine. Interestingly the photo's of it taken with the Rolls Royce were also taken the other way round. Javelin in front Roller behind, but the editors decided they wanted the roller in front!!!! Grandad has a copy of the other photo framed on his wall.
But now GKY 264 after a couple of years off the road, has been bought by Dad and I to keep it in the family and 2 weeks ago it sailed through its MOT and is now once again on the road.
Cosidering it was last restored in 1971 it is testament to Jowett engineering and the work of my Grandfather that apart from some electrical gremlins and a thourough brake overhaul very little was needed to put it back on the road. Hopefully the car will be at Scotland next year!!
Cheers for now
Tim.

GKY264
My Parents owned GKY264 back in 1957. They have photo's. My mum passed her test in it they did a lot of miles in the car while they had it. They have seen it once at a classic show many years ago. The magazine mentioned here my mum found one day in 1977 I was off school ill and had asked her to get me a comic (I was only 11) from the newsagent and there was her old car on the front cover. They still have the mint condition magazine. I'm glad a piece of their history is still out there. Now if only I could find my dads 1937 350 KSS Velocette.
Any chance of some recent pictures of GKY264 I could show my parents?
