The standard phpbb registration process is used with administrator authorization. This means when the user has completed filling in their details such as username, password and club membership tick boxes, a message is sent to the user administrator. Currently this is only me, the Forumadmin, but anybody can be designated to do this job. Indeed we could have one for each club. Currently I review the application and make an assessment as to whether it is from a bone fide enthusiast. Sometimes an email resolves any doubts. If the applicant says they are in a club I have to check with the membership sec of that club. I then add them into the appropriate groups on JowettTalk and activate their account.
The user then receives an email automatically and they can start using Jowett Talk.
Of course, I am not at my job 24 hrs of every day so in some cases there is a delay. But it is a great way to meet AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO JOIN A CLUB.
I think it is important we retain human decision making, although it does limit the more casual person (and hence possible spammer) from joining us. Any automated vetting procedure would have to deal with language and age issues.
Any comment?
