I don't know if any of you have noticed, but the little square picture of 'Mary Ellen' has changed. She is now pointing a different way, and the old grey-haired bloke leaning out of the window has disappeared - thankfully I hear you say! Now, I thought that all my previous posts with me in the car at the Basingstoke Rally last year would retain that image, and all subsequent posts would have the latest avatar image from the Bingley Rally last month. Not so. All previous posts, and future ones it seems, will have the current picture at the LHS of the screen, until I/we decide to change it again. (Couldn't do it myself, Richard sorted it for me).
This avatar thing is of no real consequence. What really needs sorting is that the LATEST posting is available at the top of the screen when any topic is accessed. I've mentioned it before, as have other members, but perhaps it's not possible for it to be automatic. I find it a real problem to have to go all the way down to the bottom of the postings just to change it for an ephemeral moment and not for all time. On a different note, I bought a couple of Jowett models from the Palmer lads who were at Myrtle Park with the 'Lascelles' Jupiter. The models are 'small but perfectly formed'. One of them is of a Jowett Javelin, the other of a Jowett Jupiter with the hood up. As I understand it, they were commisioned by the lads, and there is only a limited number of them. I would guess that there were quite a few sold at Bingley. I don't know if there will be another run, but I heard on the grapevine that there might be a Bradford Van model in the future to complement the first two models. Further news from Bingley is that Tony Heneghan from County Mayo in Ireland, who came with his two friends, had his trailer stolen from the car park of the hotel on the Sunday night before their trip back across the water. It was a bit of a problem as he had brought two cars to the rally. There was a vintage long four in the back of the van, and a wonderful, blue 1932 short saloon, a welcome companion for my own car, on the trailer. But, and wouldn't you know it, we have our own "Caped (well perhaps not caped) Crusader" in the shape of Douglas Rawson who lent the Irish trio a beautifully-crafted trailer so that they could get both vehicles home. Well that's enough for tonight (oops - sorry Keith, it's morning again). Here's looking forward to putting the valves et hoc genus omne back in the Rapier tomorrow. Tony.

What a tragic end to Mr Heneghan's weekend - unbelievable that this could take place in the hotel car park! It makes me feel a little less stupid when after bidding everyone a good night I returned to my room and panicked when I couldn't see the Weasel from my window, not a single minute part of it. I quickly got dressed again and embarrassingly had to explain to some members where I was going so late! She was hidden behind the shadow of David Grounds' Bradford - what a relief! I'm sure we have all experienced this sort of scare at some time or other, but what a shock when you actually find something missing! But what cameraderie, once again, from this superb club for someone to come to the rescue in this way - this club alone restores your faith in humanity!!
