Javelin door trim clips

Post by paul wilks »

I'm having a devil of a job refitting the door trims using the metal springs (new ones) and new replacement metal holders (the four spiked teeth seem too long!) When I attempt to fit, the metal holders just pull out of the door trim.
Has anyone come across either a more modern better solution to fitting the door trims or a source of the metal holders which fit to the trims with four spiked 'teeth' please?
The metal spring clips are easy to source. It seems the spiked holders are the problem.
Thanks

Hi Paul, you have to fit the plates with the four prongs spread at a slight angle, if you are using the original door card,
It makes it easier, if the holes made by the original plates are oversize use an epoxy glue filler (araldite), they won’t
pull out. If you are using new door card material you will have to get the four prongs to spread as you fit and squeeze
them in place, it is the slight angle of the prongs that helps hold the plate & stops it pulling out. Good luck.

Paul - Personally I would forget about using the original clips they are such a pain especially when used on the original door cards - even on new cards they fall off - there is an alternative clip out there and its readily available but needs some minor modification of the door card - I made new cards through has the original ones had become warped with water damage over the years - easiest way for me to explain is via pictures that I have on another forum - here is the link below - if you require any further info to the source of the clips etc just let me know - I have now completed several sets using this method without issues - Chris

The thread covers the restoration of Peter Pfister's Javelin - but pages 12 - 13 covers the door card retrimming / clips etc
