Petrol Pump Wanted.

The Weasel has a glass bowl type AC fuel pump(Not the early pre war type.) ideally I would like to put this back to the proper late type mushroom top Pre war one. These are not the same as the Bradford one, as the fittings on a Bradford one are bigger. If anyone has one I would be interested in acquiring one.

Hi Alan. I have the pump I took off my 1934 engine and replaced with a blanking plate as it seemed a bit of an over complication, given the tank on the Long Two is above the engine. You are welcome to it if it's the right one. Do you have a picture of the one you need? I also have the pump from the 1932 engine and that is the glass bowl type

Hi Tony

There was a cycle race going on when we were coming back and a photographer had set up with a sign advertising their website. I told Frederick to wave as we sailed past and when I looked in the evening, the photo was there!

I haven't forgotten about your kind offer to look for the steering arms. I have the measurements from Daniel's car now, but we were away on holiday and now off for 2 weeks from Saturday, so I was waiting until things got back to normal to sort it out. I've also had the offer of a seat from one of your fellow NW Sections members!

I've just dug the pump out and it actually looks a bit more like the mushroom top one in you picture than I remember. I've no idea if it's the one that left the factory in 34 though, as it looks a bit modern to me?? You might have to turn the top 180 degrees to match your pipes and hopefully you can do that without damaging the diaphragm, as it does actually seem to work! I might have run the car with it on before I decided to go with good old fashioned gravity

That looks like the one, are the pipes attached with their nuts?

Thanks for digging it out.

Hopefully should put the spring back in the step of the weasel.

The earlier ones were I think a diaphragm next to a glass bowl.

Yes, they're screw connections, just someone left a stub of the copper pipe to connect flexible to. The pump off the 1932 ex boat engine certainly has the glass bowl set up. It's on its way to you

Hi Alan,
Don't forget to use PTFE plumber's tape on the connections, and Mazak is rather brittle.
If you remove the 'mushroom' it needs to be air-tight on replacement.
Perhaps use a smear of Hylomar on the gasket.
The central screw through the cap goes into the casting.
Use a new fibre washer between the mushroom top and the screw head, and go easy on tightening.

I was told by a good authority (Michael K-O) that gravity feed is fine EXCEPT when going up a steep hill on less than half a tank.

I found this to be true on my car's first outing. See the video on YouTube, "Jowett testing" will find it!
