Javelin for sale
Hi All,
For several reasons, I have decided, very reluctantly, to offer our Javelin for sale to a new home. The advertisement has been offered to the Jowetteer and should appear in the next issue.
Jowett Javelin, 1952. She is a Standard in Black, with the correct bumpers and instruments. Owned by Ken Lees in the 1960’s, when he was the Club Competition Secretary. I have owned her for 20+ years, after her bare metal restoration by Wally Tucker in 2000. Engine believed rebuilt by Hamlin's, Bridgewater. Very late engine (E3 PE 32071 Casting no. 24582). Oil pressure is 60-70lbs. E/Fuel pump. Meadows’s gearbox. S/S exhaust. Rubber-bushed front suspension. Radiator replaced and seats retrimmed in leather. Some spares. Front seat belts, trafficators, and flashers. £6850 ovno.
We would love to stay in the club and I plan to prepare a trailer-mounted WW2 Jowett stationary engine, which I hope will drive a generator, simulating the searchlight generators that Jowett's produced in the war.
All the best, David Morris

Re: Javelin for sale
Hello David.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having to give up your Javelin, but the silver lining is that you both don't want to give up Club membership.
I hope that you will still contribute to JowettTalk, and I for one, even though I'm a pre-war chap as you know, would miss your well-informed posts.
Posts that have ranged far and wide about the vagaries of Javelins, their problems and perhaps the solutions to them.
Please bring the stationary engine to the Centenary Rally next year. Best wishes from your friend,
Tony.

Re: Javelin for sale
Hi,
Thanks Nick and Tony for your very kind thoughts.
I have now sold the Javelin to a new owner in the Midlands, Mark Duffield, who is also a shiny new member.
He is looking forward to exhibiting her at shows and I am sure he will be welcomed into the club.
Now, I hope to get cracking on my Jowett Stationary Engine project and, yes, I do hope you don't mind, but you can stll expect me to chip in with comments now and again on JowettTalk!
Many thanks to you all,
Happy Jowetteering!
David

Re: Javelin for sale
Hi Chris,
Many thanks for your email. Once I decided to part with her, I put an advertisement in the Jowetteer and in the 'Cars and Parts' section of JowettTalk.
After your helpful hint about 'Cars and Classics' I put the advert in there as well. Bingo! Three replies in 24 hours.
The new owner was one of these enquiries and ended up buying the car for the advertised price. His son has an MG Midget and they both want to bring their cars to shows. I took your hint and have joined the new owner, Mark Driffield in Walshall, as a new member of the club.
As for my next project, the Stationary engine, I have contacted Alan Barlett and may buy his engine. The other option is that I have also contacted Harry Larcombe, who purchased my original engine and hope to buy this from him.
If all goes to plan, I should have my original generator powering a set of lights! Tony Fern has posted a photo of me beside the generator nearer the beginning of this thread. Wish me luck!
Very many thanks for your help and your pleasant words in your email.
Best regards,
David

Re: Javelin for sale
Glad you got a buyer for your very desirable Javelin. You have been a great help to me in dealing with a variety of Javelin problems with Yellow Peril over the years. So, thank you for that, David. Hope to see you at a rally in the near future. All the very best to you and yours. Paul

Re: Javelin for sale
PS I remember when Ken Lees owned it. He drove it, how should I say this? enthusiastically! It was bronze or gold in those days. Or was it white?

Re: Javelin for sale
Hi Paul,
Thanks very much for your comments. Good to hear from you. When owned by Ken Lees, my Javelin was in Golden Sand ( bronze?). I have long suspected that Ken was seeking performance with her. His choice of a Standard model may have been to avoid the heavy seats in the Deluxe, and details like his reversal of the rear top suspension links that make the suspension much lower at the rear, all point to having, let's say, a more energetic car?
I had a comment from my advertisement from a neighbour of Ken's, who said he remembered that Ken always had interesting cars!
I hope you are enjoying yours and look forward to seeing you at future events. Hopefully, I shall be there with the Jowett searchlight generator! You can see that I am preparing for our future electricity needs.
All the very best to you,
David

Thanks for the photo, Tony. And yes, you're right. I would have remembered had it been yellow!!
