Re: 270 YUA Javelin
Don't know anything about this particular Javelin - From what I can see in the images on the auction house website I would say that its a pretty typical example for the guide price but without viewing the car in detail it's very difficult to state that it's worth the money - It does however look pretty solid but I would be quite suspect of the water pump bodge that has been undertaken and if one bodge has been made then the chances are that others will also be present (but I could be wrong) - Only way to understand what you getting is go and view it / listen to it running before bidding on it.

Hi All,
Interesting! I agree with Chris that the bodge to the water pump, which was presumably required to eliminate the original fan, looks a bit suspect?
Externally, the bodywork looks ok and there are a couple of underneath shots. I bet that Hardi electric petrol pump gets a bit hot where it is positioned? I had one on my last Javelin, but it gave too high a fuel pressure and I had to regulate it down, to prevent the carbs being overwhelmed.
She looks like a late 1952 or 1953 car, with many of the De luxe features. But the bumpers are wrong, they are from a Standard. Also, shouldn't the number plate be on the bumper and in a box, for a De luxe? Again, it's on the boot lid, which is a feature of a Standard. Perhaps it's a very late car, when Jowett's were using up anything they had left?
If you want to hear her running, go to the accompaning video where she is started easily and shows good oil pressure for the short length of the video. I expect someone capitilised on the original registration number, as she now probably carries a replacement number?
I echo Chris. If you are interested, go to the auction and have a good look!
All the best,
David

Re: 270 YUA Javelin
It is one of the 1953 re-worked "140" series cars and so the mix of standard and deluxe features David mentions are likely correct.

Re: 270 YUA Javelin
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the info. I believe the 14000 series were some sort of frustrated export order, that got delayed ( and finally cancelled? ) at the factory? Having spent some time in ( possibly not very perfect? ) storage, I believe they were taken back into the factory and reconditioned before sale? Hence, the mixture of bits from what the factory had to hand.
It would be interesting to learn what engine is fitted to this car?
All the best,
David

Re: 270 YUA Javelin
As I'm looking for a Javelin, I spotted this one but unfortunately couldn't find time to get down to Southampton to view it. I thought it might be educational to follow the auction online; unfortunately due to technical hitches Barons could only provide audio.
It reached a provisional £3700. Out of curiosity I contacted Barons to see if it subsequently sold, and it did for £4,400.
My search continues – all pointers gratefully welcomed.
Cheers, Bryan (aka WorcsWanderer).

Hello Peter, thanks for your response. I am indeed interested and have PM'd you. Being fairly new to the Club and Jowett Talk, I can't be sure I've sent it successfully! Hope to discuss your Javelin with you soon. Kind regards, Bryan
