Hi All,
For those viewers of You Tube there is a video entitled 'The Austin A35- making the most of it'. It only last about 12 minutes, but is the 1955 video of an RAC road test of an A35, taken straight off the Longbridge assembly line and given a road test of about 500 miles, to record it's petrol consumption.
Ok, but where is the Jowett interest, you may ask? Well, the video records a view through the windscreen of the A35 and is a triangular route through many UK towns, starting and finishing in London. The roads are mostly old 'A' roads, all before the construction of the motorways. As such, there are lots of shots of 1950's and pre-war cars, including at least two Javelins. There may be more that I have missed? It's also in colour, which must have been quite rare at the time?
The A35 completed the route successfully, and recorded a fuel consumption in the low 40's, which must have been pretty good?
A bit of Christmas viewing?
All the best,
David
