Jup in Hungary

Post by Forumadmin »

FROM ED.
I can tell you a few things about your Jowett Jupiter chassis E2 SA 558R. Are you the owner? Is it still for sale?

It is a 1952 Jowett Jupiter delivered from the Jowett factory 11 February 1952.
Its first owner was Commander Charles Edward Defries who confirmed purchase of the Jupiter on 14th April 1952. It was registered OKP 822 for him.

Jupiter Owners Auto Club records show it was owned in 1969 by a M.R.Young who was in the Royal Air Force.
It was seen in a garden of a house in the British town of Crowthorne in 1974 and was bought by Mike Blackwell who kept it until January 1976 when he sold it.
It was imported to the Netherlands where it passed through the hands of 3 dealers there. The first dealer was known to have the car in 1977
In 1983 it was sold by someone called Berk (offered for sale November 1982) to another Dutchman called Karssen, and then it was sold to JC van der Horst in 1997.
I do not know at what point it was restored, or who restored it. If it has been restored, then this would have been in the Netherlands.
I believe it went to Hungary in 1999.
I have the entry March 1999 sold to Leber & Sons of Tenerife, but the sale fell through and the Jupiter did not go to Tenerife.

I have the name Attila Bankuti as the man trying to sell the car in February 2009

FROM ORLANDO contactorlando@hotmail.com
This car is owned by my business partner, Hungarian businessman Attila Bankuti, we are collectors. He bought this Car in December 01, 2006 in Hungary. The car came to this country in April 28, 1999. I will have to check tomorrow but to the best of my knowledge Attila bought the car from Leber & Sons or an affiliate of Leber & Sons for sure, so this matches yor records. I wanted to know how transparent is its history because the car is in such a perfect condition. We keep it in a heated showroom and do regular maintenance. Recently this Jowett won the "Most beautiful car award" of the 2008 Budapest Annual Classic Car Show.
I will find out if the car was restored in Hungary or in the Netherlands.
The car is posted for sale in www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk at €29.400, we dont think it is a high price for a well maintained Jowett of traceable history, but being you the expert in the matter, pls can you indicate what asking-price do you consider appropriate? I will take your advice into consideration and I really appreciate that you have taken the time to write me, thank you very much. Again, the car is for sale, and we will consider the possibility to sell it at the appropriate price.

Appreciate your answer on this,

Regards,

Orlando

Our Jowett has its original registration and quite transparent history, but it is also in a very good shape. Last December, as I already told you, it won the 'Most Beautifull Car Award' of the Hungarian national veteran car shoow, so we would rather keep it and swap it for a LHD if possible.
Do you know of anybody in the UK owning a LHD willing to swap it for our RHD? This way we would definitely keep a jowett sample in our collection.
