Ex-employees' Reunion, Bradford Industrial Museum 2009

Post by Tony Fearn »

Once again this turned out to be one of the major events in the Jowett Car Club calendar. It was held as usual in the grounds of the Bradford Industrial Museum, which, as most of you Jowetteers know, now houses the Club's Archive, and has a range of Jowett vehicles in its display.

Some of the pre-wars are said to have either 745cc or 748 cc engines unlike my cars, 'Mary Ellen' (1934) and 'Sarah Jane' (1933) which are both 907.2 cc (nominally).

There's also a 1935 saloon quoted to be first registered in 1969.

Notwithstanding these minor discrepancies, the museum is well worth a visit if you are ever up in Yorkshire in the environs of Bradford.

Over forty Jowetts parked-up, and in the afternoon the display was inundated with Jowetteers and members of the public. This attendance grows and grows year by year, which makes drawing the raffle longer and longer!

I chatted to many Club members from various parts of the U.K.. Bill Purves came down from Edinburgh in his Bradford, Ken Rogers came up for the day from Cornwall, and all the other Sections were very well represented.

It's a mark of how much this meeting is valued when it attracts both the President (Malcolm Oliver) (left) and the present Chairman (Roger Cross) (right) of the Jowett Car Club, who I'm glad to say work together for the common good -- see photo below!!

So thanks again to Ian Priestley and his merry band, and to the Northern Section ladies who fed us, and here's to next year - but don't forget there's NATIONAL JOWETT WEEKEND AT WAKEFIELD in May 2010 before it.

Regards,

Tony.
