Wheel bearing break up...

Wheel bearing break up...
Not on a Jowett but my Nissan pickup,had a wheel bearing put on about 7 weeks ago and its now gone!.It failed the mot due to excessive play in the wheel bearing.I buy a new one and the garage put it on,the pickup passes the mot.
Then i hear a crunching coming from the wheel,i took the grease cap off and cleaned the grease away from the bearing.It looks very much like one of the ball bearings has disintegrated,lots of play on the road wheel too.
There was a ring of thin metal just behnd the flat washer,a bit mangled.
It was a Blue print spare not a gen Nissan part,has anybody ever had a bearing go this quick!

I note that you mention balls, not rollers. Javelin and Jupiter use ball bearings in front hubs, and my experience is that if there is a wheel truth or balance concern, the bearings will pound out quickly.
I used a Chinese bearing in my Jupiter's water pump and the balls climbed out in a very short space of time. Am now running a FAG bearing for some time, same working conditions, with no problems so far.
My front hub bearings - new-old-stock Ransome and Marles out of BMC labelled boxes! Working beautifully too. Previous bearings were Japanese and not up to much use at all.
Advice - never buy bearings that are cheap, particularly those that are sealed for life. Prise out the seals, count the balls - very revealing, why they are so cheap!

From what i've now found out from people who work in the same area,the bearings were never even changed first time round.It was just a tighten up job on the nut,they have done work for me before but they wont get anymore.
Makes you think how many times this sort of thing has been done in the past.Its crazy really when you think about it,i had to pull over three times because i didn't know what was going on.
If i had crashed that bloke could have been up on a manslaughter charge!

Nissan wheel bearings
I run a Nissan Navara pick up (D24 - current model) on a 06 plate - I have had it from new - among other events (2 clutch failures, front half shaft vibration all under the manufactures warranty) at 50k miles the entire os rear hub failed - I was on the M1 at the time and at 70 MPH - by the time I reached the hard shoulder the wheel was a full wheel width outside of the wheel arch - very, very scary!! Aparently the earlier built models suffered from bearing failure - mine was fitted with a completely new back axle - again under warranty - just as alarming one of the sister vehicles in the same fleet has just suffered the same failure at 130k miles - both vehicles are dealer serviced from new - the fleet is now due for renewal - we are obviously not going back to Nissan.
