I've a feeling that this is the car bought by a (relatively near) neighbour of mine who has also recently joined the JCC.

Here's a photo of the car.

Martyn has had it running, and it's in his workshop at the moment.

In the non-too-distant-future there'll be another Jowett on the road.

Tony.

Well done chaps, Chris for spotting and Tony for putting 2 and 2 together. Better still he became a member. The icing on the cake would be if he joined the forum, whats the likelihood Tony?

I hope it doesn't get over restored . As far as I can see (& remember!) it looks to be fitted with an earlier front axle as the forged axle replaced the tubular one in late '24/early '25. Otherwise it looks to be a '28 model with 2 piece windscreenas introduced in Sep '25. I suppose the reason for the tubular front axle is lost in time but as it may well have been on the car for a very long time it would be nice to stick with it.

1928 Jowett Long 2

Post by martyn cragg »

Here is the Bonham's Jowett in my workshop. l had run it briefly before Christmas, after rapping my knuckles using the handle, but wasn't happy the oil was getting round the engine so switched it off and left it alone until last week, when l had time to play with it again .l got 5 psi on the oil guage with the hand primer,so was now happy to start it up with the new battery l had. The guage read 10psi now so a test drive was in order, but the clutch wouldn't clear. Yesterday l was going to remove the gearbox and strip the clutch down but suddenly it freed so l turned my attention to the front axle and its sloppy kingpins. The nearside took only 10 minutes to strip completely. This looked fairly standard with a 1/2" kingpin, but the other side had been bored out to take a 5/8" bolt, not particularily central in the axle yoke either, so l decided to remove the axle to work on it. l wouldn't mind the correct beam axle if anyone has a spare, otherwise l will overhaul this one.Does anyone know the correct kingpin inclination ? Up to now,the bits l am looking for are a hood and frame, spare wheel and tyre, tailpipe one alloy wheel centre and correct flat headlamp glasses with reflectors.anything considered.
