Repair headlight lens

Post by Keith Andrews »

One of my Bradford, orginal headlight lens had what I thought a crack in it.
It is broken.
As I have spares, I replaced it...
These are orginal and eventually, no doubt the supply will no longer exist.

How do I repair it as best as possible, in a manner that is as invisible as possible?

PS... A section for Helpful hints and Tricks of the trade?
Many of us have had yrs of experiance in restos, panel/ paint, hot rods and similar activities...there are also many who simply Love their Jowett and would like to know how we can do things easly....
ie
Like gaskets that may be need to be reused as a road side repair (eg carburetor)
When assembling the carb, a very thin smear of engine oil (off the dipstick) on each side of the gasket will stop them sticking and breaking later.

Could look at http://loctite.fast.de/eu/TTT/page_195.html
This is the proper stuff used for mending cracks in windscreens.
http://www.loctite-europe.com/int_henke ... 7&layout=2
Is the whole list. I picked mine up at the Goodwood car show.
-----------------
Loctite® Hysol® 9455 A&B is possibly what you want; but I have not used it. It is less viscous than 3491 so will flow into crack.
--------------------
Loctite® 3491 - Glass Bonder

Single component, medium viscosity, fast curing UV adhesive designed for bonding glass to itself and to a variety of other surfaces. The product cures in seconds upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation of 365 nm to form an impact resistant bond which exhibits excellent resistance to prolonged humidity or water immersion.

Applications
Bonding and sealing or potting applications of glass to itself or other materials, such as rough surface decorative glass, tableware moulded glass parts or automotive lighting.

I use my Esprit windscreen repair system with great backup.
This kit is the one that was with the Jaguar Silk Cut victory team at Le Mans in 1990.
This uses resin with the ultraviolet 12v light.
Just brilliant.
