RALLY PREPARATION

Post by Drummond Black »

With less than three weeks to the Rally I have had to take the engine out of the Jupiter to fit a new rear crankshaft oil seal. Made a special tool to press the new seal into the Bellhousing to ensure it is fitted correctly and at right angles to the crankshaft spigot diameter. Building the engine back up later today and tomorrow and should have it back in the car by Monday. ( THATS THE PLAN ??? )

The next urgent job is to get it ready for an MOT before the Rally. How many of us around the country are facing a similar situation ?.

RALLY PREP

The Jupiter is all built up now and going for its MOT today. Now the overdrive is refusing to work. Looks like an electrical fault has been caused when removing the engine. We will get the meters out later and locate problem.

A phone call from Martin Prentice was a cry for assistance. A petrol leak on the Javelins nearside carburettor turned out to be a stripped thread at the inlet banjo. A replacement carb is now required. The two of us will get it resolved later today.

Duncan Laing called to say that he is all ready to roll. WAKEFIELD here we come.

Still waiting for an update from Bill & Sandra regarding their Jowett 8. One cylinder is giving a compression problem.

How are other sections doing ??

Complaints from the fairer gender

Post by Alastair Gregg »

There has been much banter about cleaning and polishing in the NW section, the ladies find it difficult to understand why all male clothing gets covered in Oil. I just explained what tidy and clean creatures we are, for some reason I seem to have stumbled upon some discord, I can't quite understand it myself but there you have it.

I was going to say all strange noises dealt with but I will qualify that, all NEW strange noises dealt with the old ones have yet to be found. Looking forward to it though

Weather not as good as Crieff or Bideford, but who knows what Paul and the team have up their sleeves

The Jupiter passed its MOT with flying colours on Tuesday. The overdrive problem has been located to us damaging the reverse cut off switch during engine removal. I do not have another of this type so going to put a standard Jowett reverse light switch back in and couple it through a separate N/C relay to allow the reverse cut out to operate.

Martins Carburettor was prepared last night so he plans to fit it today.

Update from Bill & Sandra - Still having a valve problem with the eight but slowly getting there.

More soon. Drummond

Weather!

Post by Alastair Gregg »

Well I did wonder if you got the dates wrong, cos this weekend has been cracking.

I smiled when you said Yorkies, because immediately a long haired sausage on four very spindly legs shivering in fear and trembling, was the picture that came to mind, and the thought of that ordering anything forced the smile. I'm sure you have it all in hand and the Scots and the South West have passed on their considerable skill and it will be wall to wall sunshine (but I shall still have the umbrella behind the seat).
