Note that your session with JowettTalk is timed and if there is no activity for some time (I have not bothered to find out what it is), you will be logged out.
Always check prior to posting that you are logged on by refreshing the screen (Ctrl+F5 on IE6) and checking the logout ICON has your name against it.
Note you must refresh the screen if you have not used the IE window for a few minutes!
Does that solve your problem (or at least one of them) PAT?

Yep thanks i must try and remember, hang on can i tick a box somewhere that brings up all the new posts from a last visit, that would let me know the time duration if i am logged out and postings that i sometimes miss.

Next thing the old brain must do is to work out putting up pictures from my docs as i can so easily on other forums with the use of paint shop pro.

Let me try with the Farina in its pride of place at Bristol.

When logged on there is the possibility to view posts since last log on (to the right, above the main box). Not sure if this does all that you asked for. Anyway the orange bells indicate if there is something you have not read.

Im having problems logging on either from the loggon at the top and at the bottom.
I do know earlier versions of phpbb the loggon box at the bottom of the page is buggy and didnt used to work
There is another bug
If one registers under the url http://jowett.org ( which I think the link from the old boards is) then tries to loggon under http://www.jowett.org the logon will not work.

I have done a lot of custom coding/Search engine Opitimisation (SEO) etc in phpbb2 within php nuke portal.

These boards are open to spam, i.e gambling and other undesiable internet spiders search out sites (like this one) then automatically make posts and links to their sites.
They are able to do this when guests are able to reply to a thread. By removing permissions in the forum Admin section to guests being able to reply is unforunatly the only way this can be prevented.
Most of these spiders do not have the abilty to use the guest "new thread" function...thu once they find the site they will hit consistantly.

Also the Ban ip function in the Admin section can be used, but also means consistant work to admin the site.

Im not a coder, but but do know my way around phpbb2 to customise a huge number of functions or where to go to do so.

Things from hiding links to members details/list if not logged on to auto resizing the more emotions window to be able to veiw them all without the visttor manually making it larger.

I orginally started with phpbb for our websites, then moved to phpbb2 within php nuke, taking advantages of blocks and modules of use to members...galleies, weather, zone time conversions, currency conversions, news, scrolling latest posts blocks.

If u have any queries please do not hesitate to ask.
Steps.

Cor! And I thought mechanical engineering was tricky, what with T.D.C., B.S.F., B.S.P. (and B.S.B. - all 26T.P.I.), then there is CO2, P.S.I., H. T. leads, not to mention lb. ft. and m.p.g. (whatever 'g'was).

The march of technology just brings on whole new legions of 'buzz' words, acronyms and abbreviations. I suppose they are designed to keep us 'old fogeys' in the dark, or at least make us struggle!

Probably not in the Oxford Dictionary. Nevertheless I'm glad Ian has responded. I thought of doing, but people know already that I'm a bit of a "technicalian" dinosaur. It's not everyone who wishes to learn and understand all this IT gobbledegook, we just want to know how to do it. When I was at work, we had perhaps over two hundred specialist histology stains to cope with, as well as much more esoteric methodology. The methods for each stain followed a pattern.
No.1 ....do this. No.2 then do that. No.3 now do this ... etc. Everyone in my lab. could follow the recipe, although sometimes we had various outcomes!! A basic list of moves to achieve an aim, without all the acronyms that 99.999999999% of us don't understand would be much more helpful. Taking Ian's point, I'm used to ICC, PCR, PAS, HVG, H&E,
SCC, Ca-in-situ and othe such terms. Just received the insurance policy from Footman James pertaining to my Jowetts. They have embraced plain English in their documentation, which is a breath of fresh air. Perhaps our IT bretheren could follow suit. Regards, (with tongue in cheek) Tony.

How old is a "old Fogey" ?
Or is it relitive?
To a 10 yr old a 30yr old is an old fogey
The only thing that changes is ones body doesnt always keep up with ones intentions...and we think about something longer before action...thats wise.
My uncle went climbing in the Himalayers at 80.
So what is an "old Fogey"?
It is a person who moves slower, thinks better, doesnt screw up, as often, and knows what is important in life. I dont have any complaints about that at all. The only down side is my 'use by date' comes up sooner and still have a lot to cram in before then.
I suppose they are designed to keep us 'old fogeys' in the dark, or at least make us struggle!
That I HAVE to agree with when it comes to computers...Im in the 'trade' and realy have no time for most who are...they use these and other BS simply to make something sound complex when it isnt...to cover their screw ups, flatter their egos, and falsely justify huge salaies.
Want 3 weeks of computer lessens?
Right click...on a file, empty (MT) space, a task bar, and even where u think nothing happens...a menu pops up, just go have a olook and play.
If u think u have changed something u shouldnt, hit the cancel button as you come out....its that simple.

PS I just twegged as to some of the terms I used in above post
phpbb... that is the nname of the program used for these boards, see right down at the bottom of the page, the copyright notice

Search engine Opitimisation (SEO)...this is what it says...coding the site so search engines (like google) find it on the internet and are able to read the information in the site to place it in such a manner that it ranks well.

spiders...these are automated programs the search the internet for sites, then go thru the site to see what is in it. Spam spiders are bad ones cause once they find a site that is not secure they automatically post adverts (spam) to to their gambling and other undesirable sites.

Admin section...this is a section of the site normal users dont have access to or can see..here the site administrati9on can change things to suit the subject of the site.

php nuke...this is a program , similar to these boards with a heap of other things it can do, and can be added to... like updated weather every 2 hrs for most towns and cities around the world...and find the time in diff time zones, convert currancys etc
