I received a notification yesterday that a new messgae was in my Inbox. But there was none in there! Did anybody send me one? Did anybody else get a PM message notification?

My phpbb2 dos this maybe once or twice a yr, and it only seems to be to the Admin..
If you check your db tables with phpmyadmin you will see who when etc recieves sends PMs
When I check my mail server tables the Why is not clear, but I do suspect when checking apache access logs it is a weak attempt of a bot to spam...
Due to it only sending to the Admin a/c and only very infrequently I have never bothered too much about it , other than take out a few ips CIDRs that trace back to countries like Korea china Nigeria in the access logs with deny all in the htaccess file around that time.
