Javelin hinge

Just removed the nearside doors to do a bit of welding on the jacking point and found that the fixed part of the hinge assembly...at the bottom of the B post ...has broken.
Can anyone help with one before I try Jowett Spares on Monday ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Father Ted,
I will also rake in the garage to see if I have one in case Keith draws a blank.

. . . and then if local sources are not forthcoming, Jowett Parts (NZ) will probably be able to sort you out. I believe they can supply every part of all hinge sets (including balls, hinge pins and nuts).

A e-mail to <smithjow"at"ihug.co.nz>will quickly verify this.

Cheers, Leo

I'm up for that, Drummond...but only if you buy me a ticket !
Thanks Leo, for that information, I'm sure one will turn up here but I'll bear it in mind.

I have a boat you can borrow. You will need to find some oars.

Got a new hinge a couple of weeks ago from JCS...many thanks.
Anticipated a fairly straightforward job but of course, no !
Heated the heads of the bolts up red hot and then some hoping the transfer of heat along the thread would make them shoot out. Not a chance. Drilled them at 4mm in the centres of the head, gradually upping it to 8mm.
Nipped the heads off with a sharp chisel. Had to tease the remains out with a small Mole due to lengths of thread left in. The hinge was in terrible condition, half was missing and the rest just corroded thin.
All clear now to weld a new section in the sill.

Hi Ted. I confgess to knowing almost nothing about the Javelin except what I pick up from folks like you with problems.
I note that originally the door hinges incorporated a spring, as do many such hinge designs. I am advised that with nylok nuts on the pin a spring is not required. Is this correct?

Hi Paul,
I'm not totally sure but I think the spring is to accomodate a little up and down movement in the pin.
If I recall, the original pin had a slot which engaged with a little tab washer under the nut.
I've a little welding to the ends of the sills to do. I'll fit the new hinge with hex head bolts, although I doubt if I'll have to remove it in my lifetime, if ever I live that long !

What do you mean....I heard you the first time ?
Strange..I posted and got a message 'General error, unable to send ' under which it said DEBUG MODE
So I tried again and you got it twice !

I deleted your duplicate. the server sometimes complains it is overloaded. Mainly because it is old and slow! I am thinking about upgrading or transfering back to host site. Just need time.
