Possible Replacement Piston - Jav/Jup?

Post by PJGD »

I attended a technical conference in Detroit this week which was held in the "Ren Cen" which is adjacent to the GM Headquarters. Associated with the conference was a trade/technology show, and among the items on display were some sectioned GM engines including a 4-cylinder 1.4 litre turbocharged engine that I understand is built in Europe, I think by Opel and probably in the UK as well where it is fitted in several small GM cars.

What caught my eye was that the bore diameter is 72.5 mm, the same as the Javelin & Jupiter.

Because the engine is current and is turbocharged, we can be confident that the piston is robust, however I do not know what the other critical dimensions are such as compression height (Jowett = 39.5 mm) and gudgeon pin diameter (Jowett = 20.638 mm), or whether oversizes are available. Hopefully, someone in Europe can do some detective work on this and report back? Well, I am sure these dimensions won't be exactly right, but will they be close enough that they will work with just minor modification?

Here is a view of the piston:
