After many years of useing a lube for the water pump and it seems a protective coating for the alloy and hoses in jowetts Porsche and other more modern cars that have been known to shred thier cam belts[real cause water pump failure through seal and bearing failure] i found our stocks exhausted.
This was working on my Porsche today as the coolant was due to be replaced {note distilled water for javs jups as well] and a belt tensioner.
After a call to the agent we got talking about the different Porsche mods and recomendations of which the w/pump subject came up, he said all the cars have the modified type fitted by now.
I pointed out that the third pump fitted[ original type] was still on the car and in good form, fitted in 1995 and no leaks.
He just could not believe it so i and told him what we do or did!
This is i believe because of the use of Holts water pump lube that has now been discontinued confirmed by head office. Dam.
Well i suppose we may well find our custermers with the moderns with a cam belt failure real cause w/pump sezure in the future.

Any ideas on anyone on the use of the screw cutting agent maybe effect on the bellow seals??Jup Jav?
We must look after the alloy blocks as well as pump corrosion.

The company [holts] have given me the formula of ingredients but not having much luck yet with what they are.
Probably i spelt them wrong.

Dear Pat,

Back in the 1970s and 1980s we used, as per Mercedes-Benz instructions, soluble oil (as used in machine tools mixed with water) as the corrosion inhibitor as well as water pump gland seal lubricator.

We used Mercedes-Benz OM 352A, OM 360 and the Vee 6 (OM 402??) diesel engines in combine harvesters. These harvester engines were ultra reliable and we never suffered a cavitation errosion concern with them - even though they were operating in extremely high ambient temperatures during harvest. I think the mix was 10% soluble oil to clean rain water.

We had minus 5 degrees in western Victoria yesterday morning - cold for that area!! Nice sunny day here though.

Hi Mike, thanks for confirming my thoughts on the use of soluble oil as a means of lube and inhibitor.
If used with the now long life antifreeze that is nearly clear in colour i must put a visible note on the filler that the coolant has soluble oil within as even with 10% added it may turn white.

Ian the main ingredent was lubrifoss lm, i think also alco and an antifoam agent.

Dear Pat,

Please note that I said I think it was 10% by volume. It is a long time now since I was involved with the M-B diesel engines. Also, we never used antifreeze in the coolant, so, I don't know how the soluble oil mixes with whatever antifreeze is used these days.

In some ways I miss the old antifreeze ritual!

Trust this helps in some small way,

Mike Allfrey.

In view of the recent temperatures in Melbourne, perhaps you ought to renistate the ritual!

Mike, i will do tests on rubbers and antifreeze with the soluble oil, thanks.
