Short Two Stolen - keep your eyes open

Last night between 00.30 and 2.30 the Short Two of Roy Flower was stolen after a break in. It is Maroon, registration NE 5890.


Please keep your eyes and ears attentive and report to the by the West Midlands police on 0345 113 5000 (Reference 20-SW-6923K-11) of any sighting.

Can someone post or locate a picture of this car please.

Peter (Spares Officer) rang me this evening to appraise me of this occurrence, and wondered if I had a photo of the car.

I've looked through my archives as he has been doing, but do not have a photo of it, so cannot be of help.

I hope someone in the Club might have a photo.

Perhaps a note saying just where and when it was on show, if you can remember, might help others to search their own photographic records.

This unfortunately seems to be a salutary tale. Take a few photos of your car(s) so that if there's a problem at least one of the photos might be of use, as in this case. If you aren't photographically inclined, then get a disposable camera (about £3) and use it up and get some prints.

It always happens to someone else (NOT!!)

If a photo is forthcoming, then doing the rounds of the Classic Car Press might just have some use. Here Noel's contacts will help I'm sure.

What a shame it is for this to happen.
A couple of thoughts. The most likely scenario's are;

1.Considering that the following and market interest for this particular type of vehicle is not huge, it is possible that it has been stolen to order.If this is so, the car will probably already be abroad most likely.
2. It's been taken by some idiot 'chancers' who will either try to sell it on, which we'll soon know about, or break it for bits, which we will also soon know about; after all who are they going to sell the bits to?
3.It's been stolen by some complete a**e who will dump it.

Let's hope it is the latter, and it's soon returned undamaged.

Just a thought, but against the possibility that it may be dismantled for 'spares', what was the engine number (Chassis too if that might help).

It's a shame that Jowetts did not serial number all their main components. My friend's vintage Humber has the same number stamped on engine, gearbox, back (and front I think) axles.

It will also be interesting to see if any 'strange' applications are made for spares.

Apart from the engine / chassis numbers, are there any unique features - e.g. a repair weld somewhere or an identifiable non-original component, that might help in the event of suspected location?

Have all the affiliated clubs been alerted?

Also, do any of the regular magazines feature a 'Lost, Stolen or Strayed' column?

If not - why not!!

Nice gesture by H & H but we need to get the rest of the trade onboard to this type of incident - as classic / vintage vehicle prices continue to rise above that of most other things around us including interest rates / property etc - we - the owners of such vehicles are becoming a lot more vunrable to this type of crime.

Tony - Not to my knowledge - but one thing is for sure - Classic & Vintage car prices are rising steady - some more than others but on the whole it's very much upwards has investors look for alternatives to put money into - lets face it they are getting next to nothing at the bank and that it is unlikely to change anytime soon - record prices are being paid at auction and on the dealers forecourt - Not just the exotic either - early Minis bringing £10k + with the right Cooper S models at £25k +, a Austin A70 Hereford pick up has just been moved on at £23k and even the Jupiter has seen a good steady rise and is en route to the £30k region for the right car. The dross is not exempt either - scrap prices are heading for record levels - hence put a lump over the weighbridge and you are in £300 territory - So back to the point - Classics & Vintage theft is very much a daily occurance - two motors (Anglia 105E & a Minivan) have both been stolen in this last week on one of the other forums that I am a member of - along with another two attempted thefts - Do yourself a favour - do not be complacent about the security of your cars - just because you have not had any trouble for the last 10 years - will not prevent your pride & joy being stolen !!!

Whilst i sympathise hugely with the family who have had the car stolen, i wonder if now, more than two years hence, if its time to make the prewar section heading a bit more pleasant, or welcoming, rather than reporting such a terrible crime.

Maybe make a thread about stolen items so that people can check, and not loose sight of the matter.

Just a constructive suggestion.
