Driver's door locking?

Hope my questions are not become irritating-will try and make this the last for a while!

I'm waiting on what I hope is the correct FS key from Jowett Spares-if I insert the glove box key into the door lock the barrel lifts out clean as a whistle?

Below is a photo of the lock from the inside-there appears to be no "bolt mechanism" to shoot over to the door post and effect the locking?

Is my assessment correct? What needs to be done to remedy the situation? I'd very much like to be able to lock the door on the way to Gaydon!

Keith.

1/ There's a (1/4" ??) square bar missing in your lock that is normally able to pass through the main lock body and the door frame. Part way along it's length it has a appropriately positioned groove machined in it which engages with a wee offset pin protruding from the lock barrel, so that when the barrel is turned the offset pin will slide the square bar sideways. The bar's long enough so that when it's moved outward from the door frame by turning the key in the lock barrel it'll enter into the orifice in the plate on the door opening. And out again to clear when the key is turned the other way of course. :)

2/ If you find the whole barrel can be pulled out with a key inserted in it then there's more that likely a small (1/16") pin missing (or broken). It passes through one side of the main body, skims through a groove in the barrel and out the other side of the main body. You'll see that the pin retains the barrel and at the same time allows it to be turned by the key.

I'm sorry I can't supply a actual image, and hope this description will give you some clues as to the the solution. But, I think I have something that's similar in the garage and will "photograph" it tomorrow . . . right now it's too darned cold and late (11:55pm!) to go out there . . .

Hi Keith,

Keep the questions coming! Lots of activity is good for the site, as well as you asking the questions means they will be here for the next new Jupiter owner to find. There's no point in our members having massive amounts of information in their heads if they don't share it, and your questions are interesting for the rest of us still learning as well.

Well folks, 2 years on I thought The problem was finally cracked as Scott Renner has kindly made for me the square bar complete with hexagonal rod that Leo pointed out was so clearly missing-see photo below:-

This is a nice fit in the recess in the outer barrell, however as can be seen in the next two photos the length of the inner barrell is such that it fills the space that my new square bar and hex rod should occupy-nor do I see the "wee offset pin" which should engage in the groove of the square bar to throw the hex rod!?

I therefore conclude that the inner barrell, too long and lacking the "wee offset pin" is incorrect!?

Am I right? Any advice, including how and where to obtain the correct inner barrell arrangement most gratefully received.

Just done a bit of "googling"-is this something like the correct barrell?

It sort of looks that way. It is about three years since I took that apart and as usual my memory fails me. Perhaps look at the SC rebuild thread. I do not have time at the moment. Rally program to check!
