Spring Lunch

Now that our hard working Southern Team Leaders have produced a schedule of likely events - see April Jowetteer - perhaps we can also make use of this 'window' to promote our Section.

As well as the Spring Lunch on 14th April (Contact Ian Roxburgh by 8th April), I notice the London Horse Harness parade on 9th April and of course Drive It Day on 22nd April.

Is anyone planning to go anywhere 'special' that day, where perhaps other could meet up?

I will probably go to Magnificent Motors in Eastbourne on the 5th/6th May as I live there, so not much excuse not to!

Then there's also the London to Brighton Commercial Vehicle run on 6th May. I know that Roger Learmonth has an entry for his Bradford and anyway it is usually a great day out for all manner of interesting vehicles. Any excuse to show off!

Any takers?

Great to see some activity from the Southern Section which I hope to be more part of in my retirement. However, saying that, time seems to be running away with the diary filling up. Currently there are five cars awaiting attention, a garage to complete, the garden to return to some semblance of order after the excavations and many holidays to organise. But we will be doing something on Drive it Day even if it is just go to the pub for lunch!

That's the spirit!

Foot in mouth time though. I have just noticed that the Spring Lunch is on a Saturday, which is not practical for me - sorry!

Still, Drive It Day should be interesting. Although my car will not be mobile then, my son is threatening to take out his newly-completed Capri with 4.9 litre engine and all the 'goodies' needed to keep it on the road and go round corners.

Jack will probably be interested in that outing as he is one of the sad ones who likes Capris!

I would do, but there is the small matter of about 2km of altitude on drive it day - Amy and I will be in the Alps for the last week of the ski season!

Another time over the summer I guess - interesting to see how he manages with the back end, my 2.8 was a handful in the corners, with 4.9l he must have done a lot of work to get it handling right.

Jack.

Apparently, after 'breezing' the Capri through the MoT today, he trod on the loud pedal when joining a dual carriageway and it was safe to do so. The limited slip diff did its job and he drifted caterwise about twenty yards before gaining normal traction.

He is so far happy with the roadholding but he plans to take it to a 'track day' where he can find out its true potential safely.

He now wants me to put the redundant 2.3 litre V6 into my Long Four! I think it might just bury its nose in the tarmac!

On a more serious note, I have spent 4 evenings 'skinning' a navy blue leather 3 piece suite to get material to re-cover the seats in the Long Four. I will be able to use the remnants of the existing covers as patterns, OK so they weren't leather originally but then genuine Rexine was highly inflammable and is no longer used so it would have to be vinyl - and at least leather had been invented in 1930.
