Re: JOWETTS FOR SALE - JULY 2012
Re the Javelin for sale at Holmfirth. On Tues 10/07 I met the proprietor of Digley Classics to look at the Javelin for sale .He is selling the car for the owner's widow, the owner having died recently , he was a member of the Club . It is an interesting car and in good + condition . I explained that I was interested in Javelins , the JCC etc and left a copy of a Jowetter with the Digley man--did'nt catch his name --to reassure potential buyers re activities, spares etc.
The car is as described in the Classic cars for sale advert. It is no E2PD 14115 ED, original registration JPY 174, a series used from 1/53 onwards. I explained to him the story of the 14000 cars , he was grateful in case any one questioned the age of the car . The original nunber was lost during a lengthy period off the road and renovation at Blackburn College . Although painted 20 years ago it is, with the exception of some minor bubbles and slightly flat spots , in very good condition. Panel fit is generally OK but not perfect . A boot lid rubber seal is fitted on the car body , not the lid and the boot needs some tidying along with a new hardura panel on one side, wiring tidy up and repainting the tool box to match. The aluminium tool tray is present but as usual the hinges are broken, easily repaired. A tow bar has been fitted . The inner boot lid panel is cracked near the offside hinge ,again a minor problem . The interior is very clean and tidy, just a couple of cracks on the top of the seat backs, not uncommon . The front and rear screen bezels are excellent but painted, a rechrome ?
A rev counter is fitted( in place of the clock), which works . We started the engine easily, I thought it was very quiet, free from some of the rattles we get( or at least I get !). It has a dynamo. The engine bay and engine etc is quite scruffy and did not benefit from the rebuild . It needs a good clean and repaint with the components in situ, everything seems to be there.
Altogether a good candidate for a buyer. I did not try it on the road and E and O excepted! Bob Lintott
