Non-arrival of September 'Jowetteer' magazine

Post by Tony Fearn »

For the first time in very many years I have not received my copy of the magazine in the first few days of the month. It's the hard copy of the September edition I'm missing.
I've been on holiday since the 3rd Sept. until yesterday, so I didn't expect to have it before I departed, but it wasn't amongst the pile of letters, bills and junk mail behind the front door when I returned.

Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Hi Tony

Mine arrived as per usual. I was excited to see mention of a Dutch Rally in 2015!

Hi Tony,

You are not alone. I had a discussion with a few members from all over the country at Goodwood this weekend, as many receive the Jowetteer by e-mail as well as print copy. I wanted to see if their print copy was arriving at approximately the same time as the e-mail, as I send it out on "Jowetteer Doormat Day" which is officially designated as the day the mag arrives on Keith's doorstep (I don't get the hard copy) as agreed with the Exec.

This led to comment that the Sep edition had arrived very early in the month, and others had not got it for a week afterwards. I suspect this is down to the delivery company, as I am fairly sure they all hit the postbox at the same time, but this was only an issue with September, not other months.

It did however raise the benefit of the monthly e-mails - many will not choose to sit in a chair with a cup of tea and read the articles and section updates, but things like the personals adverts do then arrive with everyone at the same date and time. This avoids the "postcode lottery" of some areas of the country, where a good car for a cheap price might go within hours of Jowetteer arriving, while others have not received their copy yet.

Jack.

The postcode lottery will only get worse! The very valuable Goodwood tickets were sent special delivery and even this way the tickets did not arrive at Diane and Glyn's house, nor was a card delivered. I traced them down via Goodwood ticket office and Dianne duly went along to the sorting office with the tracking number. Sure enough they were there! The relevant postman may get a telling off, but some need a bit more than that. By contrast, our local posties are excellent (most of the time).

Seems that the north of England has been singled out for special treatment by the delivery company. My September Jowetteer is atill AWOL as is the Atack's copy, as of about an hour ago anyway. It would be good to hear from other JowettTalk members if they have their copy as the 2014 Rally entry form was mailed with it!

I hope the JCC exec and Rally Committee will give us the ability to send the Rally entry form by email or complete the form on-line as many did last year. This is very desirable for those abroad and desirable for many of us in the UK who seldom use the unreliable postal service.

Some seemed to loose the entry form attached to the Jowetteer and some insisted it was never attached last year and so emails of the form were sent to those not able or un-willing to complete on-line. I think we sent a paper copy once to rectify the missing Jowetteer attachment.

Last year we also had three cheques that went missing for the balance of rally payment giving two weeks of consternation for the member and rally committee, eventually the cheques were delivered by the PO, but after BACS transfers were arranged.

Bob Mercer in Accrington got his Jowetteer today 18/9. I live 2.5 miles away. Mine still hasn't arrived. Being retired, I'm good at waiting.

Paul,
Obviously the postie knows you have opted for technology that will put him out of a job and has thrown your printed copy in the hedge!

A convenient list of past Jowetteers is here!
Still waiting for someone to volunteer to scan in the old printed ones!

The club has decided to return to using Royal Mail from the carrier previously used, although it was not clear whose 'fault' such delay in distribution it was.
Consistency across the world is unlikely to ever occur. Note that I received the electronic copy on 25th August so some of you have waited over one month and are understandably suffering withdrawal symptoms.

I would encourage everyone to opt for electronic copy only unless you really want a paper one. This will save the club (and you) an increase in the cost of subscription, save paper, ink, diesel, foot leather and storage space. Just inform our membership sec. that you do not want a printed Jowetteer. As Chris Spencer pointed out at the exec, it will also reduce the club's carbon footprint and offset the gas guzzling that some perceive our hobby to be.
